I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.
They withhold all taxes before we get our stipends/tuition payment. For me, after taxes are withheld each month, about $1240 gets deposited into my account for the stipend (I'm single and am not a dependent). As for taxes, that has been the difficult part for me. I ended up owing over $3k for 2017 and so far have paid another $4k for 2018. Nurse Corps changed the tax system in 2018, so now all taxes come out prior to the payments. Before, we were responsible for paying it all at each tax season. However, relative to the tuition, it is still worth it for me. My tuition for the first year was about $60k and will be another $50k before I'm done. I took out a loan through my school to help pay the taxes. Hope this helps!
For 2018, at least according to my portal, they've been taking about $120 a month from my stipend. Then from Winter and Spring quarter 2018, once Nurse Corps paid my school for tuition, I was responsible for paying the remaining balance. Since my tuition is so high, they withheld about $1400 in federal taxes and then $1100 in FICA employee taxes for my Spring quarter alone. I used the loan I took out through my school to pay it, which worked out fine for me. Everyone does it differently though.
Hello, has anyone received notice as a 2018-2019 Nurse Corps Scholarship recipient? My application is still under review and the suspense is killing me! They told me the deadline is 9/30. Any past recipients out there? Is 9/30 the official notification date?
I received my notice on September 5th last year. I honestly can't remember what the notification deadline was because I have been through a whole year of nursing school and have taken the NCLEX since then (everything from a year ago is such a blur). I just remember checking my credit to see if I had gotten a credit check sometime in August, and I had. Have you done that yet? Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Good luck!
