Hi everyone,
I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.
Thanks
I called the help line about getting that email about the conference calls, but not getting a final award email. The woman at the help center said that they sent the email about the conference calls out to all of the finalists, and made it sound like the scholarship is still not guaranteed (which seems like bad form to me, but eh). She said we will hear for sure by September 30th.
In my case, I have to make a decision by tomorrow about taking out a private loan to cover tuitions costs. She advised me to go ahead and take out the private loan, and the program will pay back the loan if you are awarded the scholarship. Annoying, if I end up having to pay interest on the loan, but what can ya do!
So the wait continues...
Does anyone know if we can work a second job while in the Nurse Corps program? ie. fulfill the full time hours at our site and then work 1 day a week somewhere else if we want to? I can't seem to find this information in the contract or online...
BTW I'm a finalist still awaiting my official acceptance as well!!
Hey guys,
Thanks for taking the journey with me :) I got my official scholar notification today. I figured I would post my complete timeline in hopes that it will help next year's applicants, as I was grateful for those who did the same in previous years. (Note: As an MSN applicant, I also applied for NHSC a few hours before their deadline and received a credit check for NHSC on 6/8, but didn't end up getting offered the award so I'll only discuss NURSE Corps here.)
5/11: Applied to NURSE Corps a few hours before the deadline as an MSN candidate, dual FNP-CNM. Status: Under review.
7/24: Credit check from Credco (NURSE Corps).
8/11: Finalist email from HRSA requesting that I submit documentation (W-4 and enrollment verification) through the portal by 8/17; scholarship award "not guaranteed."
8/17: I submitted my documents and signed my contract. Status: Under final review.
8/30: All my documents disappeared from my portal. Status: Under review.
8/31: Finalist email from HRSA (identical to the one from 8/11) requesting that I submit (resubmit) all the documentation by 9/6.
9/1: I (re)submitted all my documents and signed the contract (again). Status: Under final review.
9/14: I checked my portal and my contract had been countersigned but there was no notification email.
9/19: Email from HRSA inviting me to join new awardee conference calls. This was the first email that did not mention that the scholarship was "not guaranteed."
9/21: Two emails: 1) Official congrats/welcome email from HRSA; simultaneously, 2) Notification to check my portal. I lost access to the applicant portal and gained access to the participant portal. When I got access to the participant portal, it said the date of my award was 9/14 (the date of the countersignature).
I hope that this information can be helpful and not panic-inducing in this twisty, turny process known as applying for HRSA scholarships... take comfort in the fact that apparently all my documents got lost in the ether of cyberspace and everything still worked out in the end :)
If you're awaiting an award email but got a countersign, I wouldn't worry; I can confirm that they didn't send out all the welcome/congrats emails at the same time.
To other awardees, CONGRATS!! To those awaiting confirmation, prayers against anxiety and for patience. To those who were not awarded or have not heard anything to this point, prayers for provision in other ways!
Peace.
I too just got my official welcome email today! My timeline:
Submitted application several days before the May deadline (can't recall exactly when)
8/11: received finalist email
8/13: submitted all documents
Circa 8/15: double-checked the uploaded documents, and realized there were errors in the dates on my verification of enrollment forms. Called the helpline and gave them the correct dates. They said they would pass on the information to the NURSE Corps powers that be.
8/17: received an email request to reply with corrected verification of enrollment paperwork. Emailed the corrected paperwork the same day.
8/20: received confirmation that the corrected forms were received.
9/5: logged into my portal and saw that my contract was countersigned.
9/19: received the email about conference calls for new awardees. Called the helpline and was informed that the scholarship is still not guaranteed, and that I would received notice either way by 9/30.
9/20: received two emails: one welcome email confirming my status as an awardee, and one notification to check my portal for a "new message". Like JHay220's experience, the paperwork stated that I became a participant on the date that my contract was countersigned (9/5).
So now to return all that loan money I just accepted yesterday...
Sending positive thoughts and support to all of you!!
Hey All! So I got my rejection email today after months and months of waiting! Lol. I thought I would post for anyone who is feeling discouraged. I plan to apply to the loan repayment program in the future since I am doing a direct entry MSN program. Although I was not chosen, i've learned a lot about what I could do differently next time. Nursing is a great career and even if you were not chosen (even after having the infamous credit check) you still have the opportunity for a GREAT career and so many opportunities that will allow you to pay your loans back comfortably. This is how I have chosen to look at it. Lol. Congratulations and good luck to everyone!

Awesome!! That is my hope! With this being such a hard process, I think we are the best support system for each other! Glad to hear someone is going to pass it on. Best of luck nurses!!

Same here re: new awardee email & not getting an email yet. Still feels too good to be true! I have my fingers crossed.
Not sure any of us know the answer yet, but if the contract starts retroactively July 1 (I've been in school since spring 2017 - accelerated program), will we receive a retroactive stipend for July, August & September? Or will the stipend start once we are notified?
I've never received a scholarship before ever (especially one of this magnitude) so I'm very confused how this all works. Feels like free money floating around and I don't know how we get actually get it!
