Hi everyone,
I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.
Thanks
Is it true that they prefer NP compared to other advanced practice nurse like CNM? I was accepted to a dual MSN FNP/CNM program but I'm going to tailor my application to reflect my desire to work as a FNP if that is what they prefer. My EFC is 0$ so I'm hoping I have a real chance of winning something.
I am a recipient from last years cycle. If you look through previous years threads you will find links that go to the cards. I think i dug for it last year I can look trough my old posts and see if I can find it.
How do you know how many points each item is worth? Where did you view the score card?
This is a link to the 2015 score card. So it may be different slightly.

I have been following this thread for a while and have a couple of questions. First question is has anyone submitted their application yet. I'm through with my application, but I'm so nervous to submit. Second, how long was everyone's essays? I could not get any of my essays under 200 words, so I am kind of nervous about that.

My essays are about half a page and around 200 words. The info says the MAX number of characters is 5000. So I am assuming less is acceptable. Microsoft words gives the word count and character count. I plan on submitting my application this weekend. I am in the process of writing my last essay. FYI: I believe once you submit the application you can go back and change or add something. I believe once the deadline pass then you can't access or revise your application.
So, since I am in nurse practitioner school, would it be more practical for me to apply for nurse corps or NHSC?
You can apply to both and increase your chances. Take a look at this link. It may help you understand the difference and similarities of both. Good luck! https://nhsc.hrsa.gov/scholarships/scholarshipsfornurses.pdf
My essays are 1 page each, about 570 words per essay and about 3700 characters per essay. I was concerned about the length too because I read that it must be 250 words max but also 5000 characters max. I called HRSA today and asked and the individual I spoke with said to follow the 5000 characters max and that it is okay to go over the 250 word count. Just to be extra sure I'm going to call again tomorrow to make sure that I'm getting a consistent answer!

GPA makes up a total of 10 points of the score card. A 4.0 = 9pts 4+=10. Compared to the essays which are 15pts each the GPA isn't as significant.
