Nurse Corps Scholarship 2017-2018

Published

Hi everyone,

I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.

Thanks

I am so confused. so i didnt work for 2017. and while filling out W-4 form, do i put 0 in all of the sections? For now, I have only my personal information on the FORM and 0 in almost all sections. Also, my school dont have summer nursing classes, so I dont need to fill out summer verification form right? PLEASEEE HELPPP!!!! I am very confused.

If you fill out 0 they will take less taxes. It's not possible for anyone here to know what is best for your tax situation. That is completely relative to your specific situation. You only need to fill out the enrollment verification for the semesters you are enrolled.

I got the finalist email today! 4.0 GPA at Vanderbilt in the RN-MSN program (PreSpecialty FNP for non-nurses). EFC 0. I have 5 years of non-profit experience working abroad and locally on Pine Ridge Reservation in SD.

I am one year into my program right now so I have loans from last fall and spring - does anyone know if there is a way to get those covered in the contract and paid back?

I also applied for the NHSC and it seems there are less taxes with that scholarship... But I think at this point I will accept the NCSP and try to figure out thousands of dollars in taxes??? It's a bit backwards that a government funded scholarship taxes us on acceptance. Without any option of deferment until we're employed! How do they expect someone with EFC 0 to pay taxes on $60k?

You don't pay taxes on 60k. For federal taxes you don't start paying taxes until you hit 24k, States are different, mine in Mass is 11k. They take federal taxes out of your ORC and Stipend. Because your intuition payment. Is income you deduct that from your for 1058 from your school as scholarships and add it to your income. If you have no other income you are then taxed on what ever remains after the 24/11k. If you are a parent you qualify. for earned income credit and other tax exemptions based on your situation. I ended up receiving a normal refund as I had when I was working full time. People need to speak to an accountant. I'm really amazed that no one explored this prior to the finalist process. Everyone's situation is different. An accountant is the only true way to understand your situation.

Your loans for spring will not be covered, this summer and this fall are the only time loans will be paid back because you had not yet been notified of the scholarship award. Going forward, if you take loans you will be responsible for paying them back.

Basically look at this scholarship as your job. I would highly recommend rereading the guidance pdf. Everyone should full understand their responsibility prior to accepting.

To everyone that's receiving emails, CONGRATULATIONS! I'm sure you worked extremely hard and deserve it!

Did you all receive credit checks as well?

Hi guys, do you know if we get a finalist email are we guaranteed the scholarship? Also, how long will it take for them to distribute the money to the school?

Once your contract is signed by HRSA, which can take about a month your school can submit and invoice for payment. The amount of time it takes to be paid varies. My Fall bill took about 6 weeks to be paid but spring and summer were a week or two after the invoice was submitted.

Hi thank you so much for responding. I hope you can answer my other question too lol, I would really appreciate it. So I submitted the documents for the final review today, do you know how long they will take to get back to me to let me know if I received the scholarship or not? Also, my tuition bill is due this week and I don't want to be dropped from my classes. I called customer service and they said they only reimburse loans that are specifically for student loan and not savings or cosigned loans used to pay the tuition. Is that true? I havent been approved for a student loan on my own and was thinking of getting a private loan.

I decided to decline the award, so hopefully someone else will get it on here :) I was awarded several other scholarships that I applied for and none of them require a service commitment, which is why I decided to decline it. Good luck guys!

Congrats on receiving the other scholarships! Were they through your school or private ones if you dont mind me asking. Also when did you decline your award?

As far as I know any loans paid to your school on your behalf the the summer/fall semester of this year will be paid to the school and you will be paid a refund, which you are responsible to pay repay your loan. I only used school loans, so I am not positive about this but it is my impression from from other people who got the scholarship in my cycle.

I would talk to your school and show them your finalist information. My school accepted that as anticipation of payment and did not require me to pay my bill prior to HRSA paying it. I was the first person at my school to receive NCSP so it was a learning curve for everyone, but they were really great and worked with me the whole way. We have a great system now. I go to a small college though and it's easy to know everyone by first name. But its worth try to talk to them.

There is pretty much 0 chance that you will receive payment on your invoice this week. They don't start accepting invoices until the cycle is closed on 9/30.

From what I understand the only reason you would not receive the scholarship now is if your info has changed from what you originally submitted in your application to something that would disqualify you. Such as going from a full time to part time program. Hope this helps.

I would recommend joining the face book page. The link is on previous pages. I have answered a lot of questions there, and people are helping each other out to muddle through the process. Good luck!!

I didn't previously look into an accountant because I hadn't been awarded anything and I've been in an Accelerated BSN program thge past year - living across the country from my husband with an infant. Easy on the ridicule. But thank you for the other information. I will be seeking out an accountant and I appreciate the helpful tips.

Not ridicule. Just a big obligation to get into. I understand the stress of school and kids. Good luck with everything!
