Hi everyone,
I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.
Thanks
so for the service site that we would do for the obligation the hospital needs to be be at LEAST 0014?? The way it is shown on the service map?
I'm not sure what you are asking? A potential site has to have a HRSA score of 14 or higher in either Mental Health or Primary CAre (you don't have to work in those fields). Just because a site is in a MUA doesn't mean it qualifies The site itself has to be scored.
I got the finalist email today! 4.0 GPA at Vanderbilt in the RN-MSN program (PreSpecialty FNP for non-nurses). EFC 0. I have 5 years of non-profit experience working abroad and locally on Pine Ridge Reservation in SD.
I am one year into my program right now so I have loans from last fall and spring - does anyone know if there is a way to get those covered in the contract and paid back?
I also applied for the NHSC and it seems there are less taxes with that scholarship... But I think at this point I will accept the NCSP and try to figure out thousands of dollars in taxes??? It's a bit backwards that a government funded scholarship taxes us on acceptance. Without any option of deferment until we're employed! How do they expect someone with EFC 0 to pay taxes on $60k?
so how do I find out the scores of the hospital we are intersted in working at?Asking the hospital itself?
Search Health Workforce Connector it tells you the score next to the sites.
I applied for both the NHSC and Nurse Corps loan repayment programs. I got notification of being a finalist for the NHSC loan repayment program on 8/16 and had until today to accept it. My Nurse Corps application is still under review. I accepted the NHSC because of the deadline, but I honestly wanted the Nurse Corps loan repayment. I have $250,000 in student loan debt and the Nurse Corps would have paid off more money, even with taxes, in the long run. I have talked with many people on Facebook groups and they all say NHSC is the program to go with because of the taxes on the Nurse Corps. Not only do they take federal taxes from the Nurse Corps program, but you also get taxed at tax time because you have to claim it as income. Either way, free money is always something to be grateful for. My facility has a HPSA of 17 and my debt to income ratio is 294%, I just wish I had a way of knowing if I would have been selected for the Nurse Corps. I was not risking the chance of getting on money. I feel like that is a way to weed people out, offer the one of lesser value first.

Are you doing the loan repayment or the scholarship? I will have about $220k in student loan debt as well (currently at $130k with another $90k to take out) and was just offered the scholarship... Is there a way to get the loans already taken out (for the same nursing program and concurrent years) covered in the contract?

Credit checks occur prior to notification of being a finalist.
