Hi everyone,
I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.
Thanks
The official school dates include the summer semester. I didn't know I could get summer funding so I omitted it when I manually put in the dates. But the school will definitely be able to verify. For now I'll just wait and see if I'm even a finalist, but thank you so much for being willing to answer our questions! It helps.

No problem! I remember what it felt like to have my head spinning and get no where with the call center. I am happy to help. One girl from my group said it was covered for her but she had to push the issue, and the other didn't have it covered. So I would wait until you get your offer and then talk to your school. The summer/fall has a little different rules because people take out loans and stuff, so they can help you with that stuff.
Hey guys, my Credit Karma updated today and it showed I had a credit check on 7/24 from Credco (and also 6/8 from Credco because I applied to NHSC too). Can anyone who has received the NURSE Corps scholarship comment on the tax outlook? It seems like those taxes would be really heavy (my tuition alone is >$20k/semester x 5 semesters womp womp)... cheaper than taking out loans for sure, but not something to dismiss too quickly.

I recommend getting an accountant that is familiar with the scholarship. Also if you are working and married with other income or having children all factor. I am a single mother with 3 children who did not work, there for I did not end up owing taxes because my income was not high enough with the scholarship counted. Its REALLY important to have an accountant that knows about the scholarship. I know many people that were offered both scholarship to NHSC solely because of the tax differences. I hope this helps.
Keep in mind that income is not taxed federally until after 24k and in my state (MA) 11k so know what your state limit is and add the scholarship to your income otherwise and that will tell you what you will owe taxes on. Remember federal taxes are already taken from the stipend and ORC.

Is the 1300 stipend with the taxes taken out or without?

I am honestly not sure. What did your school put for your program dates? That may help? You will have to do a enrollment verification and transcript for each semester. When you get assigned an analyst they will address your individual circumstances with them. I haven't had to do that specific thing so I can't give you a good answer. My summer program this year is covered but I included it in my request, and it started in September of last year. I can ask in my face book group in anyone knows that, I'll let you know if I get any answers!
