Hi everyone,
I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.
Thanks
I specifically asked them about tier 1 and not about the over all applicant. I do understand Stat if it's from all tier then the Statistics makes sense but my question was specifically on tier 1. Anyways thanks for your response. Please look how inconsistent answers people are getting. . .. it's not just me. Trust me I drove myself crazy trying to make sense of everything they tell me on each and every call
You have on idea how it feels to be us (students) lost in a guess game.
I am not here to argue but there was clearly a misunderstanding between you and the CS agent. Most of the information you absolutely NEED to know is in the program guide. There may be some inconsistency from the CS agent, however, you are digging for information and if you feel the the answers received are inconsistent then why keep bothering them? Whether they have started awarding applicants/conducting credit checks/etc. isn't going to change anything right now.
To clarify:
* Among ALL applicants only 10% receive the award.
* All award recipients in the past have been in Tier 1 per the program guide.
(This is NOT the same as "All Tier 1 applicants receive awards" as you put it.)
Verbiage and important.
Also, I understand exactly what you (students) are going through because I am one of you. I am an applicant just like you but have chosen to heed the advice of previous award recipients, acknowledge previous threads and grant information, and most importantly read and fully understand the program guide.
Patience is a virtue. The process is moving along and we have no control over it! Excessively calling the CS agents to receive inconsistent information does nothing good for anyone.

NWOHRN is right, there is no point in bothering calling and trying to find answers in what the BHW reps give. You have to remember that this scholarship is federal contract. They are not going to give any type of committed answer to anyone in order to avoid being held liable for anything. Once you HAVE A SIGNED CONTRACT (that is not the same as having an offer) you will be given portal access as a recipient, at that point you will be assigned an analyst and they will answer any specific questions about the program and your role in it. Until you have the contract you will not get committed answers you will get the same generalize inconsistent answers that you have been. Don't drive yourself crazy, read previous threads and look at the time lines you will see the time line is consistent. Also, read the pdf, I can't stress this enough! Additionally, research that there are service facilities in your community. I am seeing people in my cycle that never did, now they are freaking out because they will have to move to be able to fulfill their service contract. This is a HUGE piece you should be sure of before you sign your contract! Try to relax it's happening even if it doesn't seem like it. But calling the BHW will just make you feel crazy!
This datawharhouse tool can tell you HRSA scores. Make sure your local facilities qualify!

That's why I said I stopped calling them a while ago
I don't bother them trust me
This is off their PDF. Tiers are strictly based on EFC. If your EFC is below 5000 you are in the first funding preference. If you look at the statistics they've released for previous years on who was awarded the applications, 50% of the awards went to NP programs, 30% went to public health programs and 20% went to RN programs. I may be off a little on the numbers but I remember 2016 had 257 awards and only like 56 or something were for registered nurse programs.
Funding Preferences
There is a funding preference for applicants of greatest financial need. An applicant's financial
need is determined based on the applicant's Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is
provided on the Official Student Aid Report (SAR) generated through the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applicants with an EFC between $0 and $5,550 will be considered
as having the greatest financial need.
Among qualified applicants with the greatest financial need (i.e. applicants with an EFC
between $0 and $5,550):
(1) First Funding Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are enrolled or
accepted for enrollment in an accredited diploma, undergraduate nursing program or
graduate level nurse practitioner program as full-time students.
(2) Second Funding Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are enrolled or
accepted for enrollment in an accredited graduate nursing program for Doctor of
Nursing Practice programs, programs for certified nurse midwives, certified registered
nurse anesthetists, or clinical nurse specialists as full-time students.
(3) Third Funding Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are enrolled or
accepted for enrollment in an accredited diploma, undergraduate or graduate nursing
program as part-time students.
To the extent that funds remain available, all other applicants will be considered in the order of
decreasing financial need.

Thank you!
We will get through this somehow.
I can't believe I went though this same anxiety to get into the program and now here I am again with this.. ..
We can do it you guys. Let's hang in there.

The tiers are explained in the guidance pdf. If you are an Master's level NP it is Tier 1. If you are DNP level NP it is not tier 1. Any other advanced nursing degrees are not in tier 1.
Also, full time RN students either ADN or BS/BSN students are in Tier 1. All others are in further tiers.
