Nurse Corps Scholarship 2017-2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone,

I am interested in applying to the nurse corps scholarship 2017 2018 in order to pay for my accelerated program of sixteen months. I have a bachelors in sociology. I have done quiet a few researches. The application cycle will be open this month but I don't know which exact date. I have read discussion threads of previous years and have found really helpful information. I want to create a platform where interested applicants can ask questions, share information, discuss and help each other.

Thanks

Do we know if all students with 0 EFC are awarded if they are working on MSN degrees to practice as an NP?

No EFC alone is not factored. The essays, transcript, gpa, EFC etc are all scored and then they are tallied and those who have the highest tallies are offered first. That wave is give 72 hours to accept/decline the offer and submit the appropriate paperwork. After that is completed they do another wave and so on down the list until allotted funds are disbursed. Being an NP level NP puts you in first tier along with RNs that are full time students, and usually first tier is all their is funding for. But EFC is not the only consideration.

Great...looks like I'm not going to school.

Well I'm sure you still have opportunity? It's actually a good thing that its not just EFC because everyone has the opportunity to get offered, not just the lowest income people based on all of their submissions. Did you read the PDF when you applied? It explains how things are considered, also only about 10% of applicants receive the scholarship, did you have a back plan for funding? Its not over yet. I wouldn't throw in the towel.

I have a question:

On their website it says "historically we were able to fund all the students on tier 1" why are they telling us that the chance of getting the schlorship is only 10% even though you tell them that you're on tier 1?

They also tell u u have 10% chance of getting the schlorship but based on the website regarding tier 1 is not accurate but every rep refused to admit or give an answer that makes sense. If everyone is funded on Tier 1 how is that 10% chance for tier 1 applicants?

You must misunderstand statistics. They are correct in saying that out of all the applications received only 10% are awarded. That has nothing to do with how each applicant is separated among tiers. You can't just change the factors of the statistic and expect it to be the same and that's certainly not what they said.

I'm not sure I understand the question. If you read the data in the pdf it seems as though as it is 10% of total eligible applicants. It doesn't' say that everyone in tier 1 gets an award. It says that everyone that gets an award is in tier 1.

How do you know what tier your in?

I called today as well, just to see what response I would get, and the woman I spoke with said that awards are already being dispersed and that I should continue to check my email and the application portal for any notifications or changes in my application status.

Specializes in Surgical/Trauma ICU RN.

I spoke to a representative this morning. He made the most sense to me. He told me that awards have not been dispersed yet, however they are in the final process of selecting applicants and within two weeks, award letters will be going out.

Wow so much inconsistency! I guess at this point I really shouldn't be too surprised given the variety of replies people have heard...

I specifically asked them about tier 1 and not about the over all applicant. I do understand Stat if it's from all tier then the Statistics makes sense but my question was specifically on tier 1. Anyways thanks for your response.

Please look how inconsistent answers people are getting. . .. it's not just me. Trust me I drove myself crazy trying to make sense of everything they tell me on each and every call

You have on idea how it feels to be us (students) lost in a guess game.

B/c I'm in full time NP program, EFC below 5000
