2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi Everyone,

I didn't see a thread created for the 2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program yet. This will be my 3rd year applying. I'm applying as a staff RN with a HPSA score of 17. Hopefully, they open the application cycle soon.

Where do you check to see if you have had your credit checked? I do but think I have had mine checked either. ?

I had multiple checks by Credco, this year, but not last year. But my score decreased to 13 from 17, so I have no hope. RN HPSA 13 I think, D/I 180%. 2nd year in a row applying for NELRP.

But I am now thinking it was due to a mortgage refinance, but CREDCO was the company I read about last year.

Credit karma its free, in the past I saw credco mentioned. but I think its for a motgage refi i did, now that I googled it. I applied last year no check. I had applied 2 years prior and had a check from Credco.

This is also my 3rd year applying. And I am tier 1, so just know that there are apparently no automatic guarantees! ??. I was told that my application was marked ineligible last year because of the wrong date on a form?? But my application read eligible the whole time! If I hadn’t asked why I didn’t get it I guess I wouldn’t have known. Go figure.

I received a credit check on 5/14. However, I am up for a continuation award. I am applying for my 3rd year in Nurse Corp. my two year obligation is slated to end 08/2019. I am hoping to get the award for one more year. It’s been pretty awesome and a great blessing for the past two years. Good luck to everyone!

Hello, everyone

I'm a nursing student I live in Pennsylvania. I'm thinking about applying for nurse corp. But I'm unsure because of the commitment and I live in a rural area of Pennsylvania. And if I have t relocate what happens to my family.

No credit checks here, either. Here's an interesting piece of info that y'all might or might not know that I just got confirmation of via email (I didn't see it anywhere in the application or program details) -- if a loan is cosigned (by a parent, spouse, etc), the amount of that cosigned loan will be subtracted from your total debt, impacting your DTI ratio. Applying for cosigner release rarely works (at least it hasn't the past 3 years that I've applied through Sallie Mae). What a frustrating stipulation!

Good luck everyone!

Thanks for letting us know. I don't have any loans cosigned but do have consolidated loans and some of my loans aren't even nursing related so they wont be added. It seems so weird that most of us haven't received credit checks - besides the person who was up for continuation this year. Really don't have good feelings about the potential outcome so far.

Hi Jazzjune, who confirmed this? I have not heard this and have not read about this anywhere. This is really frustrating to hear as about half of my student loans are private loans that my parents cosigned on :(

Also does any one know how to know if your credit has been checked? I just signed up for credit karma, would it be under the "hard inquiry" tab? What does it mean when they check your credit?

Thanks everyone!

Yes it should be under the “hard inquiry” tab, they check your credit to determine debt to income ratio ... possibly for some other reasons such as verification.

Hi kclouse -- I know, isn't it exasperating? I'm in the same boat. A BHW rep named Quatesha was the one who confirmed it. These were her exact words: "the program will disregard the [cosigned] loan from your total debt amount which will lead to a reduced award due to the fact that it is a percentage of your total eligible loan balance that you are awarded." My understanding is that it must be due to the chance that someone might default on their work commitment and HRSA wouldn't be able to go after the co-signer, but those are just my own thoughts. I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
