2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Published

Hi Everyone,

I didn't see a thread created for the 2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program yet. This will be my 3rd year applying. I'm applying as a staff RN with a HPSA score of 17. Hopefully, they open the application cycle soon.

Hi kclouse -- I know, isn't it exasperating? I'm in the same boat. A BHW rep named Quatesha was the one who confirmed it. These were her exact words: "the program will disregard the [cosigned] loan from your total debt amount which will lead to a reduced award due to the fact that it is a percentage of your total eligible loan balance that you are awarded." My understanding is that it must be due to the chance that someone might default on their work commitment and HRSA wouldn't be able to go after the co-signer, but those are just my own thoughts. I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Thanks for the info! I just got off the phone with the BHW and the woman I spoke to said that private loans with a cosigner would be considered eligible as long as they are primarily in my name. They said the parentPLUS loans are not considered though, which I knew because they listed that as a non qualifying loan. It would be really odd to me if they didn't except cosigned loans as MOST people, myself included, go into college right out of high school and have ZERO credit so a cosigner would be required.

I guess we will see, I already don't feel great about my application and am worried I will not be selected. I have 125% DTI ratio and a HRSA score of 17, which to me seems like a ton of debt, but when looking on this website looks like I won't be competitive enough unfortunately :(

I have not had my credit check either. Not sure what is going on. I called to HRSA and a guy just told me that my application is under review.

This is my 4th time applying ?. I’m a FNP and work in facility with a rating of 18. Hoping I get through this year!! Has anyone received. Credit check yet? I haven’t. ????

I don’t think anyone has had a credit check, if you don’t mind me asking what’s your DTI ratio? Have you been applying from the same facility for the past 4 years?

My DTI is 60%... I think that’s why I haven’t been chosen. How about you?

Oh okay, my DTI is 125% and HRSA is 17 I’m not feeling great though as looking at prior years in this forum and even this year, that doesn’t seem competitive enough :(

Hi guys, I haven’t received a credit check as well. I wonder what’s going on? I applied last year and received a credit check by now.

Don’t panic. I feel like the due date was later this year too. Hopefully they are just a little behind because they stacked all the applications on top of each other this year. I’d never seen all the dates so close in previous years but maybe I’m wrong.

I agree that the dates were later. They’ve started credit checks as least for continuation awards, because I have gotten one. I’m just not sure if they have started for new awards.
