2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program
Hi Erika C, on page 5 and 6 the co-signer topic is discussed. Sounds like there's some mixed messages coming from the LRP reps about co-signed loans, but I'm going with kclouse's discussion -- more hopeful for us! No news for me other than a credit check in late May. RN at an FQHC, primary care score 15/mental health 17. DTI 170% (with cosigned loans). 3rd year applying. Congrats to all that have been awarded and peaceful thoughts to all who are still anxiously waiting ?

2019 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program
Hi kclouse -- I know, isn't it exasperating? I'm in the same boat. A BHW rep named Quatesha was the one who confirmed it. These were her exact words: "the program will disregard the [cosigned] loan from your total debt amount which will lead to a reduced award due to the fact that it is a percentage of your total eligible loan balance that you are awarded." My understanding is that it must be due to the chance that someone might default on their work commitment and HRSA wouldn't be able to go after the co-signer, but those are just my own thoughts. I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

No credit checks here, either. Here's an interesting piece of info that y'all might or might not know that I just got confirmation of via email (I didn't see it anywhere in the application or program details) -- if a loan is cosigned (by a parent, spouse, etc), the amount of that cosigned loan will be subtracted from your total debt, impacting your DTI ratio. Applying for cosigner release rarely works (at least it hasn't the past 3 years that I've applied through Sallie Mae). What a frustrating stipulation! Good luck everyone!
