Hi Fellow Nurses!
Is anyone else anxiously awaiting the 2017 cycle opening?
I have applied several times and praying that 2017 is my year. I'm tier 1 - not faculty and not an NP.
Is anyone else out there?
Can you speak to how the state/federal taxes work for the reward? I've heard that since the money is taxed, it's not really 85% loan repayment. I'd be happy with whatever, but just wanted to know how you handled the tax burden.
Basically what CrnaTX said. The way I handle it is as if I had a second paycheck. Taxes are taken out right away so you don't have to worry about anything. Then when tax season comes you'll get a w-2 in the mail just like any other job. Hope this helps.
Argh! I'm a wreck now checking my email every hour. I even broke down and called HRSA to see if I could find out anything. The gentleman I spoke to couldn't even confirm whether or not they notify applicants by group (NF, NP, etc.). And his parting words were, "You will be notified between now and September 30th." Keeping my fingers crossed!

they tax as if it's income. lets say u win a 100k award. you'll be taxed on 100K award + salary. So roughly 30% tax. its 85% for the 3 yrs of service pre tax assuming you accept that 3rd option yr. so a 100K award would see 70K/36 payments. Think u can choose to with hold more too.
