2017 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Published

Hi Fellow Nurses!

Is anyone else anxiously awaiting the 2017 cycle opening?

I have applied several times and praying that 2017 is my year. I'm tier 1 - not faculty and not an NP.

Is anyone else out there?

I believe my credit was checked April 17 last year.

So roughly 3 months from credit check til award email.

Okay thank you for the info!

Updates from anyone?

Nothing here but checking every day!

@josebajo: Goodness gracious! 220%? Are you a CRNA?

No, just a Creighton University's tuition and a base salary of 42k lol

@josebajo I see, I'm glad you were awarded. Sometimes when I'm really jaded, I think about all of the people that get over on the system. Those who are proud of having done nothing. Then I think about people who struggled financially through school, trying to learn how to help people. Only to struggle more. But perhaps repayment plans make it worth while. Then there are those of whom come to us who really need help. And when you are able to provide it, the relief in their faces remind us why we wanted to struggle in the first place.

Yeah I hear what you're saying. Just keep trying, I didn't even get a credit check the first time I applied and I was really down. I didn't even want to apply again, but I did and got it on the second time! Best of luck!

Hi everyone, I received the award last year my DTI was 220% Tier 1 facility. I got notified late July with the offer. I'm hoping my wife gets the award this year. Her DTI is higher than mine was last year so we'll see. Good luck to everyone.

Can you speak to how the state/federal taxes work for the reward? I've heard that since the money is taxed, it's not really 85% loan repayment. I'd be happy with whatever, but just wanted to know how you handled the tax burden.
