Nurse Corps Loan Repayment 2016 Cycle

Published

Hello All,

I am applying for the nurse corps loan repayment program 2016 cycle, I just spoke to a representative who told me the application cycle opens up tomorrow. For those of you who have applied any tips advice etc.? I am very excited about this opportunity because I have an outrageous amount of loans.

I'm a CRNA with a facility score of 14 and debt to income ration over 100%

I'm a CRNA with a facility score of 14 and debt to income ration over 100%

NP score of 17 and DTI of 200%

Sounds like you have a good chance. Last year it seemed like they awarded A lot more NP's. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because this 1800 a month loan payment is getting ridiculous.

Is it too early to expect any award emails?

I got a credit check last year and didn't get the loan. I also got a credit check on April 19th. Hoping I get it this year.

Any ideas as to why you weren't awarded it last year? Any problems with credit report?

Not sure. Good credit and no late payments. I'm not sure how they chose who gets awarded. I'm in tier 1 and didn't get it

Anyone get an email yet?

Also a crna here in a similar boat. Still no credit check for me though :( Hopefully they haven't done all that they will do. And I know how you feel about the student loan monthly note! 2100 a month for me, or a mortgage payment for a nice house!

with all due respect and more power to you, but NPs don't make near as much as NAs. I believe more money is set aside to APNs who are addressing the shortage of PCPs, such as an NP working at an FQHC with a primary score of 17 making less than 100k per year as opposed to NAs who make on average 160k.

Yes I am aware that the program is primarily directed towards NP'S as you said. That is why I fall into the misc 30% of the funding category, vs. NP (50%) and faculty (30%). With all due respect to you, the fact that I am a crna doesn't mean that I am any less deserving and can't hope for such a blessing just as everyone else applying. And according to the guidelines, D/I ratio is the determining factor within a given tier, not annual salary, and my score of 14 that gets me into tier 1 does not weigh any less than a score of 25 or anything in between. Best of luck to you and all other faculty, RNs, & APRNs (including CRNAs).

I'm not sure how much debt NP's are in after school but CRNA's for the most part cannot work and usually come out with 150k plus in student loans. Currently I owe 200k after paying for 2 years, which is the reason our debt to income ratio is so high and puts us in tier 1. Yes the average salary is 160k but some do make less depending on the facility and area. At the end of the day, we are all nurses trying to get help paying our loans. Good luck to everyone

I'm an NP applying for the first time as well. HPSA score 14, which I believe is Tier 1. D/I ratio of 140%. I got my credit checked twice by Credco. Once on April 11 and again April 19. I am sure though that the reason is because I also applied to the NHSC program. Reading the rules carefully, this is allowed but ultimately you can only pick one program. Good luck to everyone!
