Hello All,
I am applying for the nurse corps loan repayment program 2016 cycle, I just spoke to a representative who told me the application cycle opens up tomorrow. For those of you who have applied any tips advice etc.? I am very excited about this opportunity because I have an outrageous amount of loans.
I would imagine originally it was to rectify shortages, it used to be the HPSA was the first criteria they went by to decide who is awarded, as long as you were in Tier 1, but now its D/I over HPSA. So I don't really know the reason for the change. It looks like this year they changed it. The rest of it NO idea, it depends where you live i suppose. I think the hiring process and training process is very long at most places.
What I don't understand about this program is that if it was developed to rectify shortages why is there so much competition? I'm thinking that a medical professional would not go unless there was this incentive? Also does anyone know how to get hired at these places? Do they require years of experience (if a person has years of experience they probably made a pretty good dent in their school loans). Are they looking for the BEST most experienced professional to fill this shortage? Or is it a true shortage? I think the industry is going through a hiring shortage not a real shortage.
I did email them, of course the information is NEVER correct but they said september 30th, but yes I assume I was NOT selected this year, since its taking so long to countersign, previous years it does seem like people were notified in July early August at the latest. i think they are focusing on Counter signatures by now, and not initial awards. So long guess next year i will have more loans because I am an idiot and going to finish my Post MSN FNP certificate!! I am a glutton for punishment i guess!
Per the LRP guidelines, it says you will be notified "no later than September 1" if you are a finalist. I guess I am out this year, but will continue to apply. Congrats to all those that received the award this time.

Did you receive notification that you were a finalist as of yet?
Just updating people on a counter sign.I was counter signed this morning around 10am. I got my finalist email 8/13/16 and accepted the same day.
Im an NP-- DTI ~150%, I work in an HIV clinic attached to a disproportionate share hospital; couldn't find a HPSA score for my clinic specifically--- but we have other areas of the facility with scores over 14.
Good luck to everyone!
i also accepted 8/13 but no countersign yet. I think it must be in a totally random order that they do it.
So I just checked again and saw that there is an additional signature on my contract, however my status did not change and I did not receive an email for an update in status. I called to ask if this signature was the countersign or just someone who approved that my application requirements are still met. She said that its best to wait until you get an official email or a change in the portal status with an update because that signature may not be the actual counter signature.
