Hello All,
I am applying for the nurse corps loan repayment program 2016 cycle, I just spoke to a representative who told me the application cycle opens up tomorrow. For those of you who have applied any tips advice etc.? I am very excited about this opportunity because I have an outrageous amount of loans.
No changes only a credit check i know its long few months still: But i did read the amounts given out last year and it was way more than previous years:
In FY 2015, the NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program:
- received more than 6,000 eligible applications,
- made approximately 600 initial awards to RNs and advanced practice registered nurses working at Critical Shortage Facilities and
- gave out more than 1,110 initial awards to nurse faculty working at eligible schools of nursing, awarding a total of $39.7 million.
95 percent of those awards were made to RNs and advanced practice registered nurses working in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) with scores of 14 or higher.
Makes me feel like as long as you are in Tier 1 and have a decent HPSA score > 14 and high D/I of at least 100% there was enough money? But then I saw ppl who had >200% and higher HPSA scores of 17-18 and they did not get it.
I am just an RN with and MSN, but I am not faculty I work at a VA facility we have an HPSA of 17, my D/I is around 150% i think.
it does not seem like they exactly follow the rules or at least there is more to it than just the Tier and HPSA Score. Or people made mistakes, but i don't see how the application process was very streamlined!! Who knows I guess.
Nurse practitioner here who works at a Healthcare for the Homeless clinic. Site score is an 18, DTI is at 200%, and I had a credit check on April 19th. This is my first time applying. I had a baby on Jan. 27th so I applied later in the cycle. I have seen a lot of concern over how they determine who receives the funding. I think they divide everyone into 4 categories, NPs, RNs, Faculty, and other. They then find out which applications meet requirements and put them in order (meaning tiers) under each category of applicants. Then they organize each Tier by DTI. Basically, this would mean that some Tier 2 individuals could make it depending on which group they fall in. I've been doing a lot of research online, and NPs tend to have more funding reserved for them for whatever reason. I have seen some nurse faculty in Tier 2 get the award, but not any other categories. Just some thoughts. Good luck to everyone! I think every nurse deserves this help.
I think at this point we are over rationalizing because we all work very hard and not one person is more deserving than another. This waiting process is grueling and I am just trying to distract myself as much as possible until september. This is an amazing opportunity but if I don't get it I will just keep applying life goes on.
I read in previous threads that they also determine your tier by the type of facility you work at. I work at a non profit non-disproportionate share hospital with a HPSA score of 20. The chart someone showed on an old thread was showing this type of facility as a tier 4, regardless of the HPSA score. However, the program guidance for 2016 states that it goes by HPSA score and our debt to income ratio. Any insight?⚡Presentation "NURSE CORPS LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM (Formerly known as Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program, NELRP) Application and Program Webinar January 29, 2
That's really interesting. I know that I read in one portion of the application that they given preference to individuals who are helping address the primary care crisis, but I do not remember seeing anything about the chart that was in the slide show. The one that was in the application was much different from that. I work at a FQHC at a Healthcare for the Homeless site so I hope that helps me. I really need this loan repayment, as we all do.
