Nurse Corp Scholarship Finalist

Hello there. I was trying to look into older posts about older HRSA or Nurse Corp scholarship winners. I currently applied to the 2013-2014 cycle and attending a private nursing school. I have a EFC of 0 and basically none of my parents work. Just this past Wednesday I received and email congratulating me on being chosen for the Nurse Corp scholarship. I was pretty excited about the good news but the email also said I needed to accept the award. I went to the HRSA website and it is asking for additional information and at the top it says I am a finalist and the award is not guaranteed. My question is did I get the scholarship or not? The email and the website contradict each other. Have any of you applied for the scholarship? Any responses? I also called HRSA about the W-4 forms they are asking for and apparently they are having problems with that whole process. So yea any inquiries or comments would be REALLY helpful.

Deep breaths. It looks like last year they did not get the "official" word until mid September. We might be in for a bit of a wait. I'm trying to relax and not think about it too much, other than to feel very thankful for the opportunity. Easier said than done, but yeah, I'm mentally preparing myself for having to wait until September for official confirmation.

Keeping an open mind. I'm willing to wait as long as everything goes through well!

Hello everyone. I received my congratulations email today. I'm super excited but since the tuition check will not be sent until after school starts, should we take out enough financial aid to cover our books? Has anyone gotten any clarification on this from customer service?

This whole situation is confusing. I was advised not to take out a loan and then advised to take one if needed. My school starts Sept. 23. Thank God I have a little bit more time to figure this out. I read the thread from last year's award recipients and they seemed to be just as confused. I also visited the NURSE CORPS Facebook page which stated that all awards would be disbursed to the schools by October. What does that even mean?!?? lol... Some one last year said something about applying for a loan, but not accepting it because once the loan has been used to pay your tuition and fees, NURSE CORPS will only pay the remaining balance. I am in a one year accelerated program and my tuition needs to be paid for the whole year. I'm not sure if we can get some official documentation to give to our schools. I would suggest contacting your financial aid and scholarships office. Perhaps, they are familiar with the scholarship and can give guidance on what steps to take. If I find any helpful information, I will def. post. :)

Congrats!! Everything is unsure now, since I'm continuing my classes I would need to take out a loan still but I spoke to my financial aid advisor and she told me once the invoice is sent they would get the money and pay off the amount borrow and from there on it would just be paid off. But it could be different if you have never took out a loan.

I checked out the Facebook page and also saw that The money would be disbursed to schools by October. This is all confusing, I originally thought it would be by September the latest. It's all crazy! Hopefully we get some clarification soon. The last time I called the hrsa hot line it was because I had some questions about the w-4 form. Haven't heard from them since.

Thanks. And I appreciate you clearing that up for me. My school doesn't know a thing about this award so I need all the advice I can get. I think I'm going to need to take out loans to at least cover my books and hoping it will be paid back once the scholarship money is sent to the school. Thanks again for your help.

Yw. We all need an extra help. Right now I'm confused because I logged into the log in page for the hrsa and now this sign says "This account cannot have the participant role as it already associated with a non-participant record." What? I'm going to call them in the morning.

Did you figure out what happened? I'm still able to view my info which states "In Final Review".

I did not get a chance to call today because of 3 finals I had today but I actually logged in a while ago and that message went off and yea it says the same thing. "In final review". Maybe it was some sort of glitch?

Have any of you found out anything yet??

I'm in the same boat as everyone here, school starts for me next week! Will anyone post once their final OK comes in, I'm anxious to hear ASAP. I did take out my loans after speaking with an HRSA rep. They said that it was okay for me take them and preferred that I pay for everything with these loans rather than buy books from out of pocket. After the scholarship has final approval, then a credit is dispersed to the school and credited to my account. That being said, I hope it works out and hopefully more clarity can come for all!
