NRSE 290 - Special Topics in Nursing

Published

Has anyone taken one of the NRSE 290 courses? From what I understand, these are 2 or 3 credit courses offered at various times and covering different topics. I don't see any offered in either the Summer or Fall course lisitings but I wonder if I should be looking somewhere other than the Academic Outreach section.

The reason I'm interested is simple: I need to take one in order to have enough credits to graduate. I was lucky enough to get exempted from quite a number of nursing courses but the bad news about that is that it leaves me with 29.67 credits (on the new semester credit system) and the requirement is 30 SH. Ohio won't round things up, so my only alternative is to take another course.

Take something FUN chuckster! ...

No one's taken any of the special topics courses?

And for rninme, at this stage, I'll take "boring, but less work" over "fun"

Specializes in ICU, step down, dialysis.

That's a class I took almost 30 years ago at a branch campus of OU for my ADN. Maybe they are offering it online via one of their branch campus list of courses.

Specializes in lots of specialties.

Chuckster- you can find those classes by googling online Ohio university courses.

Here are the offerings for this summer. This is how I found a cheaper version of sociology offered online through OU.

The highlighted courses are what are still available. Black = the course has been filled.

Shannon -- Thanks for posting this. I'm not sure I ever would have found things on my own.

I'm going crazy trying to find an appropriate elective. Nearly all of the classes require proctored exams. How do I handle that since I'm located 450 miles or so from Athens? And while I've got my rant stick out, a proctored exam for Exploring Musical Styles? Really? C'mon now.

Check your hospital library. I called mine today b/c I have a stats midterm and final that need to be proctored. My hospital library does the proctored exams. Woohoo!

Maybe yours will too, or you can try another community college nearer to your home, see if they do it.

Most community colleges will proctor exams. But what a pain...I feel for you, Chuckster.

Thanks for the suggestions but since I don't work at a hospital, that's out. My CC does offer a proctoring service but the classes I was considering have exams slated for Fridays and unfortunately the CC is closed on Fri in the summer.

I'm still floored that a music appreciation course feels the need to required a proctored exam . . .

That's a joke. We take upper level nursing courses with no proctored exam. Heaven forbid you might cheat on music!

you can also check into places where they hold the NCLEX. There are a lot of places that protor. Here is a site that gives you various schools that do so. Here is the link
