NP gave meds to her married boyfriend

Nurses Professionalism

Published

I found a bottle of antibiotics in my husband's book bag. The prescriber was his mistress a NP(she knows he is married and they have been seeing each since 2012, he would always say it was over but evidence would pop up indicating otherwise, she even bought him a jeep then went to my parent's house requesting it back after he told her he wasn't leaving his wife).

I called the pharmacy and the automated system stated the script was written to someone with her last name. My ex husband stated his friend had an infection but did not have insurance so he asked his mistress to write a prescription. I told him that I threw out the medication. I left my husband and reported this NP to the NY State Education Department Office of Professional Discipline, and I sent the meds to the investigator handling the case. The investigator stated she cannot give me the status nor the results from the case.

My question is besides possibly losing her license, what are the other repercussions this NP can face?

I think this poster is trolling. Someone from SDN who has an ax to grind with NPs. You call him your husband in the initial post and then say that you left him a year ago. Something is not adding up... And you seem to know a little too much about prescribing.

I'd say you have done all you can... and it will take care of itself from here. "I left my husband..." probably being the most healthy thing you can do for yourself! Take care!

I dissected the soap opera for you. As you were.....

While I personally question the motives of the OP, it does continue to point out that as APNs, we should NOT be writing scripts for ANYTHING for ANYONE who is NOT our PATIENT.

Simple, no problems!

I certainly agree with this. Personally, I don't write prescriptions to anyone other than my patients. What bothers me though is that I'm not convinced that is what happened here. Reporting someone to a professional board is an incredibly serious act. It should be done in an ethical manner when there is probable cause of a violation. It's not a platform to work out personal drama or vengeance. That doesn't sit right with me. Plus the fact that OP is still actively pursuing it makes it even more egregious, in my opinion.

Wow ... I have to ask the OP what were you hoping would occur when you reported 'the Mistress' to the BON? You are asking the question now - what's the worse that could happen? It all depends on how deeply they investigate - but I would imagine that once the BON connect the dots and see this was an act of revenge (which is what it was) they will let it go. I don't know if you are a nurse - but you better make sure that your closet is squeaky clean. IF the BON is, in fact, investigating they will look closely at everyone involved.

Your best course of action at this point is to let it go, seek professional help if you have to. Nothing good can come out of this.

Your 9th word into your post is HUSBAND.

Hi Evolvingrn, he is no longer my husband. I know for sure he is not a "catch", that is why I LEFT HIM last year. I have no idea who or what the antibiotics were truly for. Thank God my tests are negative. OMG these responses are becoming more about the soap opera than the question. I only posted the back end information because I knew everyone would come for me and say that I should just leave him and leave the NP alone. Enjoy your day.

Aren't you a healthcare professional yourself? You do know that this board exists for NURSES, right? Me thinks that you are in no way, shape or form a nurse and created an account solely to get your jollies either in straight up troll form, or trying to delight in some sick satisfaction that the woman who broke up your marriage gets her just rewards. I hope you're placing some of the blame on your marriage failure upon your husband, ex-husband, whatever you're calling him lately.

She wrote the prescription to someone with her last name and gave the meds to my ex husband. I stated in my original post that I called the pharmacy and the automated system stated the meds were for somone with her last name.

As far as I know healthcare professionals are not supposed to write prescriptions for themselves and give the medication to other people, nor write scripts for people they are not treating. This is what she did wrong. Correct me if I am wrong.
