NP and ACNP schools that don't require RN experience?

Published

Hi everyone, Does anyone know of any family nurse practitioner or acute care nurse practitioner schools that don't require RN experience prior to applying? I know there are a few, but I'm not aware of their names. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Why wouldn't you want experience as an RN first?

I don't think experience is helpful myself. As I posted in another thread just now on the same topic, I think intelligence is much more important than number of years someone has pushed pills.

You obviously have no idea what nurses actually do.

I'm well aware of what nurses do and do not intend to turn this into a flame war. My point is simply that while nurses can learn some things that will translate into being a better NP, ultimately intelligence is more important than experience. Many nurses in understaffed med/surg floors don't have time to think about the patho of their patients, they are lucky if they are able to pass out all the pills and write up all the notes on time.

OP - There are many programs, I personally do not have a list of programs that do not require RN experience, but all require you to either be an RN at the beginning or the first few years of the program teach you to become an RN. Depending on if you are already an RN will determine which programs you will want to search for.

Rest - Let's keep this post toward answering the OPs question.
