If they really don't want foreign nurses, why are they opening more NCLEX test centers every where in the world..?(to make money..?)

I should have choosen Ausralia,instead of US. Mistakes are mistake, always.

just because you take the NCLEX regardless on country there is no guarantee that you will get a visa to work in the US

Ya...but, people are taking NCLEX to go to USA. If they don't want foreign RN, let them close all international NCLEX centers and be happy with domestic nurses. Do you know how much we, people from Pilippines, India and China spending to attend NCLEX? We are spending our life time earnings to write this exam and if there is no visa...?? I am not for a fight...just expressing my feelings..

Sorry but no one forced them to take the exam and in previous years before international sites plenty of nurses flew to the US to sit the exam, I flew to the US three times to sit the exam and even coming from the UK it is not cheap. I too am not looking for a fight but certain countries have a high demand on visas and some have been known to just do the nursing RN to get a GC and others even admit to being forced to do nursing by their parents so they can get a GC. Also it is documented in the Philippines of a huge amount of nursing students with not enough jobs, what will happen if the US should decide that RN's must have x amount of experience before allowing them the chance to apply for licensure. Some countries already have that requirement and currently very hard to get a work permit for the EU if not from the EU.

There's no doubt they can, but will they? Sure, they can pass the CIR and even debated on it for weeks, but did they? Sure, they can pass the DREAM bill and the SKIL bill and even debated on them, but did they?

There have been so many immigration related bills or amendments offered in the Senate or House's floor, but nothing has been passed....for what reason? Politics...they are all playing safe.

Major think-tanks in the Senate already said that if the CIR bill didn't pass, the next immigration related bill that could pass congress would be after the election.

There's nothing wrong in hoping and there's always positive in praying....only miracle can make this happen before the election. If it does happen, it's because of our prayers!

I am saying "AMEN" to the thread praying for this retrogression to end.

i think this is one of the most frustrating and stressful processes i have ever gone through!

i am sure that everyone else is feeling the same.

to some extent i agree that it is ethically wrong that the us are happy to allow foreign nurses to pay out money for ces through cgfns, to sit nclex etc knowing that there are no visas available!

i don't necessarily agree that the shortage of nurses in the hospitals ie working is not a problem for the us and am aware that many us agencies and associations have highlighted (through their research and data) the extent of the shortage of nurses (whether working or not), the fact that training more nurses in the us will take many years to cover this shortage and the effect that the shortage has on patient care .

i would like to post a link to a website which i have found to be very useful. i have subscribed to the monthly medical monitor. there is more than one way to skin a cat and there are people out there who are trying to do something about it , outside of cir. they cannot simply pass cir through the senate so that we can get green cards when cir was seen by many as amnesty ie giving illegal immigrants legal status -something that they disagreed with.

what is schedule a? here is the official definition from dol:

i agree that there is misalignment of visa usage (140,000 per year for eb) and the actual need. most of the 140,000 goes to it professionals who are not even in the schedule a list. why is this so?

for occupations not on the schedule a list, they have to go through a labor certification process, which nowadays could take just 5 to 6 months to get. are they adding up to the work force? definitely, no! these it professionals already have h1b or l1 visas in the us. they are just asking for permanent residence status. therefore, many of them are already in the us. they are the ones doing the adjustment of status. adjustment of status eats up 80% of the eb visas. only about 20% goes to consular processing.

another thing, nurses falls under eb3. one good thing for philippines but not for india and china, there is a per country limit. each country is given about 9,800 eb visas per year.

go figure....how many years would it take us to get our visa?

Immigration bills are at limbo for some time, as the issue is complex and need compromise.

But do not mix schedule A with those!

Because it was done before, there is no reason they can't lobby for it again. As of now nothing will happen. maybe next year when the July VB fiasco fizzle out.

Thanks for that answer. Yes, it was done before in 2005. What was holding it being done now except for that July VB thing? Is it only that?
