Nova Southeastern University Entry Level BSN Winter 2014

Published

Hi future nurses! I've been searching for a recent forum of the BSN program for Winter 2014 but couldn't find any so I decided to make one myself. I applied to the Winter 2014 BSN program at NOVA. All my prereqs are done, my GPA is 3.7 and my science GPA is 3.5. I was hoping to receive feedback from anyone who has applied in the past or is currently applying like myself to the Winter 2014 program! Have any of you gotten an interview call yet?:nailbiting::nailbiting:

You can't get the government subsidized/ unsubsidized loans? " DirectLoans" Because I am not eligible for financial aid either but i have loans taken out and they are not private ones from a bank either. I already used 25,000 in my loans and undergrads are only allowed 57,000 in total. I know I will need a personal bank loan for the rest.

No I didn't call just talked to one of the advisors in the lobby were I was and she asked me what I got and told me I did good I'm going to the fort Myers campus :) IF I can get my loan from the bank that is lpl

Yeah like I am getting bright futures and other aid from nova but I applied for a loan from my bank so I can pay my rent and bills because I know I will not be able to work much while in the program I'm praying for it so I can go to the school I have my heart set on and I can be done in two years when I'm 23 or I'll have to do another four years for the same degree at my community college at home :\ it's a trade off lol

True, i forgot about a personal loan for not working. I work full-time right now Monday thru Friday from 8-5 and go to school right after. I just got married in May and I moved right across from Nova to be close. I have rent to pay and other bills just like others but most importantly, I have rent to pay lol. I truly don't know what I am going to do but I can't stop working completely. I doubt the bank will approve me for a loan because I got denied for a mortgage even though my credit was fine. Thats how everyone else at Nova does it in these graduate school programs such as Optometry and D.O. They take out like 100,000 and live off that. Ill do anything I have to do right now to pay for it if I get accepted, this opportunity to me is too good to pass up and mainly, it proves something to myself which means more.

Exactly! Like my credit is really good too but I'm guessing ill have to get a consigner that bank better figure it out quick because I have until nov 8th to pay the $200 to hold my spot it's so stressful but just think that when we are RNs our income will make paying these loans off and everything else less stressful :)

Hello Everyone! I am new to this forum. I have an interview/Kaplan exam scheduled for this Wednesday the 30th. Does anyone have any tips regarding the interview or the exam? Also, for those who have been accepted, are there any other fees that we have to pay out of pocket besides the $200 to reserve your place in the program?

We started off with an essay, an interview and a tour...then comes the Kaplan. Interview was WAY better than i expected, people told me to relax and i didn't listen...RELAX! it went by so fast! We only got asked one question and then two group scenarios and then your done! After that they gave us a tour and we have like a three hour lunch break. The Kaplan is long and dreadful. The science section is nuts and no way to study for it because the questions are so broad...its impossible to know them. Math was fractions, ratios and word problems however, the questions about a nurse giving a dose of medication mixed with fractions threw me off completely. I personally do not do well on standardized tests but I can have a 4.0 if I tried so I did horrible on the test. I have always been above average in reading/writing and I bombed every section by changing around my answers thinking i got it wrong..well i got a 64%. I was up since 6am and didn't take the test until 1...so by that time i was tired and dressed up in uncomfortable interview clothes..you tell me who the hell is going to want to take that test! You sit in front of a panel of three women..thats all so its not bad.

I heard last week that I got put on HOLD ?. I don't know what it was, but it was possibly my overall 66 on the Kaplan. Nothing I can do about it except wait and study for the TEAS. I also have an open house on Oct 31st for Chamberlin. I'll make it work somewhere if I don't get accepted. While taking my prerequisites I really focused my attention on getting the best GPA I could. I really thought that was the deciding factor to get into these programs. Now that I am in the process I can see that its so much more competitive to get in than just your GPA.

I had a feeling it was a hold :( Well let me tell you about the hold...Mallory said " it isn't always a bad thing" (take that how you want to lol ) she said that some reasons people get put on a hold is because one :: They want to wait until interviews are over so that they can compare you to someone who was either stronger or weaker in an interview than you were or TWO::: they want to wait until your final grades post from another school to see your grades then make a decision. See for me, a hold is bad too ...that means i can't make a decision until nova does in December..by that time I need to KNOW where i am going to school ! I took the HESI at chamberlain this past saturday and passed but i truly am using that as my last resort. I had everything perfect here ...I moved right across from Nova/BC to make it easier and I worked my A** off to make a high GPA...it's very disheartening to know it all went to the craps because of this test..it's sad.

Then I am on HOLD while being compared because all my grades had posted last May. I'm just going to go about my business studying for tests at other programs and setting up interviews. Try not to make yourself get stressed over things you can't control, it isn't logical. Just keep on trucking.

Thank you for responding! I truly apprciate all the information you've given me. I'm extremely nervous, but I know I need to relax. What was your interview date? & Have you been notified of acceptance/denial yet?

Welcome ! My interview was Wed Oct 23 ...I did not hear anything back yet but believe me I am dying to call and see if they made a decision yet but I know it's too early. Btw, I don't know if you studied at all for the Kaplan but the test only consisted of math, reading, science, writing and critical thinking. I studied for five days, I had quizlet running the Kaplan flash cards while I was in the shower, doing work and all - well, didn't help apparently lol.
