Nova Southeastern University Entry Level BSN Winter 2014

Published

Hi future nurses! I've been searching for a recent forum of the BSN program for Winter 2014 but couldn't find any so I decided to make one myself. I applied to the Winter 2014 BSN program at NOVA. All my prereqs are done, my GPA is 3.7 and my science GPA is 3.5. I was hoping to receive feedback from anyone who has applied in the past or is currently applying like myself to the Winter 2014 program! Have any of you gotten an interview call yet?:nailbiting::nailbiting:

@yankeesgirl907, I know how you feel. I checked my v.i.p page multiple times a day and stressed so much that I started to think negatively. It was the worst thing I could've done. Be positive! I'm more than sure admissions knows that we may not have performed as well as we could have on the Kaplan considering the short notice. The fact that they chose to interview you is a positive already. Even with classes in progress, they still wanted to meet you. Their acceptance factors more than just the Kaplan score. If they cared mostly about the score, they wouldn't go through the hassle of interviewing so many potential candidates. So, although they've added the Kaplan, your gpa, interview and writing sample may be strong enough. Also, we don't really know how most people scored. So, don't stress yourself out. You've come this far, be positive. Have faith and know that regardless of the decision they make, you will be a great nurse one day. Everything happens for a reason. As a matter of fact, I initially applied at the beginning of this year and had my interview in May for the Fall 2013 program. I was still in the process of taking 3 classes and they didn't have the Kaplan requirement. During my interview, they asked "if you could be a flower, which flower would you be and why?". Out of all questions, this was probably the worst because I hate flowers. LOL. I don't care for them. I think they are beautiful but I don't care to receive them or know much about them for that matter. So, I gave them the most cliche answer (a white rose that, for me, represented purity and honesty...then I tied in being a nurse can be seen in that way too). Cliche, right? Lol. Needless to say, I figured I had bombed it. During the writing sample, I was so caught up in trying to impress them, that I ran out of time and rushed through it. I love to write and I pride myself on my writing. So, I knew that wasn't my best work and that it would count against me. I wasn't accepted but placed on deferment. They didn't want to completely deny me because I had "potential". So, I saw it as a way to improve. This time around (minus the Kaplan), I had more confidence in both my response during the interview and my writing sample. I prayed about it and left it in God's hands because after the Kaplan, there was nothing more to do than to wait...and stalk my v.i.p page. LOL. Being accepted this time around, meant that much more to me. Never count yourself out. My interview was the 9th and I didn't receive my official acceptance email until this past Thursday. So, just be patient. Give it about another week, and then go ahead and bug them about your status. Lol. I wish you the best of luck through your journey. :)

By the way, I totally didn't mean to write a book on here. Sorry for the long reply. Lol.

Thank you for sharing ! I enjoyed reading your post, it really does help. I actually made myself so stressed out that on the day of the interview, I started feeling sick and I am like oh no not now! well by Friday, it was in full effect. I have a bad cold and I have been in bed since (except siting through a four hour HESI test yesterday) I worried so much apparently it took a toll on me because I never get this way. From here on out, I am going to try my hardest to leave it in Gods hands and thats it. I know there is nothing I can actually do so why make myself sick. Deferment means that you need to do an interview and essay again?

I had my exam and interview Thursday the 24th and expecting the decision to take three weeks I got accepted the very next day!!!! Woo lol!!!! Now to just get this loan I applied for.... Lol

Congratulations to you ! Mine was on Oct 23rd. You had it Thursday Oct 24th? and it took 24 hours ?! wow. How did you do on the Kaplan?

I got a 71 overall I did the best on math I thought I did really bad but one of the advisors told

Me I did well above the average I also had a really great interview I felt totally comfortable and confident! Yeah I got the email yesterday morning and it says my acceptance date is the 25th on the VIP page :)

i don't remember any of my scores on any section i was so nervous but if my overall was a 64, i am sure most my scores were in the 50's to average to a 64. Not good at all :( I do well on the HESI for some reason just not this. Everything in that Kaplan study book was crap...not one thing i studied I felt was on there except the math obviously. I know they said they are bringing back the HESI exam because they have higher scores...well isn't that true!

Lol yeah I got an 80 on math and 70s for reading and grammar then a 60 on science I didn't get a book I barely studied but I have taken the teas test a couple times before and it's way harder than kaplan

I wish we could retake it but thats not an option, i guess they feel we should know all this stuff before hand since it's basic but the whole setup was off. We took the test at 1 , after a long day at an early start..oh well, can't change it now ! Just hoping for a miracle at this point !

@yankeesgirl907, I was sick too! Not cold sick bit knots in stomach and nausea. So, you're not alone. Lol. I hope you're feeling better though! Yes, deferment meant that I had to interview and write again. I didn't have to apply or pay an application fee. I was taking my last set of required classes. So, I sent in my final transcripts after they deferred me and that placed me on the first teir the second time around.

@semundy1211, congrats on your acceptance! I, too, got a 60 on the science. That was rough. Lol. It hit me hard because it brought my overall down to a 79%. I got 89% on my math, and between 83-86% on the reading, grammar, vocab section. I've never taken the Teas but I hear it's really hard. Ive taken the HESI and did way better. The Kaplan was way harder. So, you can actually call and get more info on how you scored/how it compared to the average? What campus are you going to?

No I didn't call just talked to one of the advisors in the lobby were I was and she asked me what I got and told me I did good I'm going to the fort Myers campus :) IF I can get my loan from the bank that is lpl

@semundy1211 hey I am in the same position as you are! I can only go to nova if I can find the money to pay for it. It sucks cause I am not eligible for any federal aid. I don't know if paying $50000 out of pocket is even worth it. :/
