Today I am sending my application to Nova Southeastern for the Fall 2009. Excited and hopeful. Give me a shout out if you are sending your application as well.
Hey Guys,I applied for the RN program at BCC starting in August, and I'm pretty sure I'll get in b/c I have a good GPA, but now I'm just wondering if I will be able to survive there. I have a few friends that started the program last January (all of them got to the program with GPAs from 3.6 to 4.0), and they are barely surviving. One of them failed the math test and got held back. I understand and have been preparing myself for the program to be challenging. But I don't want to get into something that people just want you to fail, and most cannot complete/graduate.
I've been starting to look around for other schools, my major issue with other schools is the lengh of the program. I guess if I go let's say to Nova I'll have to wait another year to get into the program right? Because the pre-reqs there are different from BCC. What about other schools?
I would appreciate any imput from you guys, I feel a little lost right now.
Have a nice day!
listen, im not a nova graduate, and i did not make it past the first semester-- so i will tell you what i know personally & from the nursing students from nova i meet at work doing their practicum. i felt someone on here was being very mean to me because i said the school was great & students get treated so good there >but i say that because that is what i hear from my best friend who graduated from there, we started together and from people who i meet during clinicals or practicum at my hospital. i can't tell you what their program is like now beause i didn't experience the whole thing-- just a tiny bit.
the first semester of nova for me, was very difficult, because it's 5 classes, there are long papers to write, and the advanced a&p class is ridiculously hard, medical school doctors teach those classes-- i studied and studied and seem never to pass my exams:cry: the dean, was so so suportive to me, she talked to me about tutoring, library and i did everything and didn't get it. the nursing theory that i took, i really liked because it was critical thinking and that's what im really good at, it just makes sense in my brain somehow... but nova, has a lot of classes like advanced a&p, biostatistics, pathophysiology> all these classes that are straight forward and that is what a lot of people are really good at, straight forward memory--something that i am not good at all. when i was at nova, they curved the tests, the campus is beautiful, library is awesome with the private rooms to study, the teachers are super nice & dean door is always open. I ended up failing a&p, and passed the other classes. but then............
i was lucky enough to be accepted to bcc the following semester-- yes the prof are mean, and it feels like you are being 'weeded out' by 1/2 your class failing the first semester--- but, what i did like about bcc, is that the tests were never straight forward. i studied my books & did nclex questions and i always passed my tests-- except the cardiac semester-medsurg3 where i hate cardiac-- and i still do!! i just never understood the whole cardiac thing. i had a baby in the middle of the bcc rn program, and i would study 3 days before the test and i still passed my tests. and to me, honest, it was not the best school, but it was a school that i could handle--- how can you beat one class every 8 weeks with a clinical?? except the first semester where pharm is added and lasts the whole semester plus one math class?? please, bcc was a piece of cake compared to nova.
failing nova for me, was a blessing in disguise because i would of never been able to have a baby in the middle of the nova program, i didn't have to bust my behind writing 15 page papers, i didn't have to drive all over broward for clinicals, because all the hospitals i went to were near bcc south, bc i was poor, financial aid paid for everything, i only paid for my gas and uniform and supplies and food ovbiously. i started in august 2005 and finished in june 2007 my graduation ceremony was in august----
and eventhough i was sad, because i loved nova, and always wanted to get my bachelor's degree. i am content because all the $$$ i make as a nurse goes to me and not a loan company.
i have my rn degree and make as much $$ as a nurse from nova--the $0.50 cent raise you get for having your bachelors degree comes after working at the hospital for a year.
now, im on the fiu rn-bsn program, i do everything online except for the clinical practicum, and the hospital is paying for it, i don't have to pay a dime for school.
so whatever you decide, i wish you the best of luck:up:
May 1st is Friday...which is the deadline for the applications, and the other posters have indicated letters would be sent out then. It is tough to be patient, but likely, no one will hear prior to Friday. Enjoy a week of not knowing & hopefully relax, remember "ignorance is bliss":) It is all going to be good one way or another. Good luck & keep us posted!!! Enjoy your week!!!!
Hello everyone
I just spent most of the night reading all of the postings. I applied at the beginning of the month and I haven't gotten a call yet for an interview. My friend applied in feb. and got her interv. in march. One thing that I have working against me is that I am now taking 7 classes that they need I will be done with them by next week and I am just hoping that they are only waiting for these grades.I also email Renee this morning to also apply at the fort myers campus. I just have to start the program this fall on either campuses....
I have a quest. thought .... everyone who applied and got an inter. can you guys please let me know your GPA's?
Thank you
I feel a little lost right now as well. I was in the RN program at BCC North but am now looking another school. I'm hoping to find some advice on here. By process 2, the number of students in my class dropped by more than 1/2. So many people get held back. I have one more chance left in their program, and I'm not taking it because even if I get past Process 2 with it, if I need another chance later on I will be forced out and have to go to LPN school. I'm looking for a better experience than what I received there. Any advice is much appreciated. I already have my AA and am looking at possibly joining a BSN program if I can get in. My poor GPA doesn't look so hot anymore....
oh no!! what happened?
Well congrat on you interview I hope everything went well for you. But no I don't think they tell you if you made it or not during the interview... but don't take my words for it because I haven't gotten my interview yet and I am not sure. But can you please share with me what happened please and also what is you current GPA? I would like to know because mine is a little low comparing to many.
Thanks

deadline is may 1, so i think they have to wait till then to start sending out letters... all of my stuff is in, they were just waiting on my last letter of rec. which my prof just sent out, should get to them by the end of the week.... i have not heard anything at all from the school... i wonder if they started to look at my stuff or if they wait till they receive it all. this waiting is frustrating!
has anyone been called recently for a may interview?
