Notification to change in work roster

Published

Hello fellow Nurses,

I wanted to check to see if you get notification if your work schedule changes and if so how far in advance you know what way you will be working?

Currently in my setting a roster is completed on the Thursday or Friday for the following week and for that week only, so for example I know what way I am working for the rest of this week, but it still could change. On more than one occassion we would be told that the Roster is Temporary and still subject to change, often it is then changed and you would not necessarily be informed of a change you would have to keep checking it. Any feedback on similar experiences would be great

Thanks

Union contract specifies 12 weeks notice.

Shift change with less notice results in management having to pay the first shift at double time.

Is there a reason the schedule can't be done for more than one week at a time? This sounds disturbingly almost like a day labor situation.

2 weeks written notice

i've never worked anywhere without at least 3 weeks' schedule in the book and solid.

Where I work every nurse except for the casuals have a set schedule that is four weeks long and it just repeats over and over. The ONLY time it changes is if you agree to a change or a part timer picks up a shift.Full timers always know when they are working, even weeks in advance.

Our schedule comes out in 6 week blocks but we don't get very much notice. For example, our current schedule ends next Saturday and we don't have our next schedule yet. Our requests were due weeks ago yet the schedule isn't even done yet. It's rather inconsiderate because, at this point, if they put me on a day I told them I couldn't work the first week in the schedule, by the time I get a copy of the schedule (which will be Wednesday at the earliest) I'll only have a week and a half to try to find switches. Once the schedule is done, it's done and they cannot make changes to it without your permission.
