Note-taking tips

Published

Since I start my fundamentals lecture on Monday, I was wondering if any of you had any note-taking advice for nursing lectures. Did you use a computer to take notes or just pen and paper? Any other tips and tricks? I have also purchased a digital recorder so that I can listen to the lectures again while studying at home.

I have the 2007 version. Do you remember how you find it?

Edit: Okay, I just searched for it and found it. Thanks so much!

LOL...Youre very welcome!

on my mac it's an option under project gallery...ah well just saw that you found it...nevermind!

Does anybody know where I can find a digital voice recorder for under 40$? Im starting school Sept 7th, and would like to have one! Thanks!:)

I just bought one from Walmart for $30. It's an RCA digital recorder.

I still can't decide whether I want to use a notebook or my laptop for note taking. I think I'd rather use my laptop because it will keep me more organized. Also, in MS Word there is a "Notebook" feature that's really cool--it's laid out like a paper notebook, has dividers for different sections, and also has a recording function that works pretty well for recording lectures.

You are amazing! I've never heard of this notebook thing before, so reading through here I looked on my computer and found the student notebooke. AMAZING! You should be given an award for bringing this up! LOL I'm highly excited now to use this in class!

thank you!

No, its not only on Macs. There is a Mac version of this and a PC version as well.

If you have Microsoft Office version 2007 or 2010 then you most likely have the notebook feature. It's called "OneNote". You can actually record on that as well. Im pretty sure you have it, just look. And Im telling you to look because I had Office 2007 for about a year before I realized I had "OneNote" on my PC.

I have office 2007 and I can't find it....any ideas where to look?

Go to Start->All programs->Microsoft Office->Onenote (the icon is purple)

I ordered MS Office for starting nursing school. (I start Monday! :D) And was so excited once I started playing around in OneNote. I made a binder for each class and set up tabs and etc. Then I e-mailed my teacher and she said they weren't going to allow laptops in the classroom :smackingf:

I still think it will be a good resource to use though, that way I can type up my notes in greater detail after class and keep them organized. One thing that I really love is that if I copy and paste something from a website, it will link it to the web address if you need to go back to the site later.

I also ordered the $30 RCA recorder from wal-mart. Haven't gotten it in yet but I hope it works well. Had pretty good reviews!

Your amazing! I never knew what it was, and I just opened it. This would have saved me a lot in A&P! I can't wait to start using it Sept 13th! Thank you!

Yeah, I wish I'd known about this for A&P, too!

jil_, when I was in high school I often re-typed my notes after class because it's just easier for me to have all of my notes in one place. Re-typing them also helps to reinforce the important concepts. Before tests or exams I always like to make myself a study guide of all of the important points that we've covered in class so far. I think that OneNote would be useful for that, too.

you should be able to use your iphone as a recorder itself, and bypass all the syncing.

Even if you were just using it to record lectures, if my instructors catch anyone touching a cell phone or iPod Touch in any capacity during class time, we're kicked out for the day. Might want to check about this before using a phone to record lectures! Oh, and always ask permission to record lectures too!
