  1. Last year when I started nursing school, I had the same question!!! I was so nervous and wanted to be beyond prepared! However, other than going into it with the mindset that this is your life and all other aspects of it must take a backseat, it is very hard to prepare for. Not to be discouraging, but it is unlike anything else you will ever do! The few things I can say that did help me is just do not procrastinate!! There is no time for that in this program. Use every resource you have available to you because you will need it! Don't take anything personal; there is a reason not everyone gets into the program and that is because the expectation to perform and be miles above average is required, not optional!! If you have made it this far, you will do fine. Just remember to breathe and most importantly, have some fun because nursing school above all the hard work, sleepless nights, empty wallet, no-outside-life, etc..., is actually very fun! Enjoy the ride :)
  2. Careful what you say, it can be deduced to who you are referring to by your post....and, you don't want to be "that" person! Just sayin....
  3. I'm taking it right now and I dont think it is that hard. It is sort of like A&P all over again but with more emphasis on the disease processes, what to look for, signs/symptoms, labs, etc... It's actually a lot more interesting than A&P because it is more "relatable" to nursing which in turn makes it easier to understand. Hope that helps.
  4. Any brand of "teal" colored scrub top and white pants, white shoes. Who wears teal? Seriously! I'll get through it though and promptly donate my uniform to the school upon graduation! Gladly!
  5. I have office 2007 and I can't find it....any ideas where to look?
  6. To "Tyler 77": wowwwww...you should think about a career in the state police or something:) not in a profession where caring, compassion and understanding are a must!! Ouch....
  7. "And I am just trying to be realistic... which is good for people. It is particularly beneficial for those folks who are facing frustration and doubting themselves due to their inability to secure employments... it is helpful, I believe, for them to hear the truth that it's not a reflection of themselves but rather the situation in which they find themselves." However, the truth doesn't necessarily have to reflect a negative connotation. All negativity does is drag people down. Yes, there is truth to the fact that it may be difficult to find a job but are you also saying it will never happen? Odds are usually in your favor if you are persistant. Those who choose to view unemployment as a reflection of themselves are choosing that (choosing being the operative word here), and I personally just choose to be positive in what is already a negative situation. Truth and negativity do not have to go hand in hand! Thanks for all of your replys though and glad to hear you were persistant enough and found a job!!! All the best to you.
  8. I never said it was easy...in fact, what I said was that it isn't impossible. The whole point in the message was to say that negativity about the job market, especially to new grads, is unnecessary. There truly is something out there for everyone but if you want to work in a SPECIFIC area or specialty, being proactive and having a positive attitude during the process will get you closer to your ultimate goal. You are free to post your opinions, as that is what I am doing here, but I find being negative about a process we all have to go through does nothing good for anyone! Just trying to keep it positive!
  9. It isn't IMPOSSIBLE to get a job as a new grad RN. From some of these posts, you'd think people were trying to get into NASA. I realize it might be a bit of a challenge, but there is something out there for everyone! Just be persistent and try talking with HR at hospitals to find out how to make yourself more marketable and stand out in the crowd. Sure, you may have to start out in a facility that is less than ideal (atleast from what you want to do long term), but just remember nursing can take you anywhere you want to go. It might take some time but that is the blessing about becoming a nurse...you can do whatever you want!! Best of luck to the OP and welcome to the Northwest!
  10. I haven't started NS yet...starts end of September but I am curious? What is an externship? And, how does one go about getting into one?
  11. :yeah::yeah:What an accomplishment....congratulations! Any helpful pieces of advice for those of us who are about to begin our first year of nursing school? So many of us are completely freaked out yet so excited for it all to begin! You were there not too long ago so what could you tell us that we all could benefit from? Again, congratulations and best of luck to you in your nursing career!
  12. Thanks all!!! That one seems to be the popular one (litmann II SE). I think I'll go for that one. I start NS end of September, but am trying to purchase things I will need as I can financially instead of waiting until last minute when all things combined are very expensive!! Thanks again....
  13. To all you NS veterans, what is a good stethoscope to purchase that is not high end, not low end, but will do all the things I will need it to do for nursing school? There is such a wide range out there of brands and costs that I am unsure as to what to get! Thanks in advance!
  14. OK good, I really do feel better about this class! I am now thinking of taking it online because it conflicts with another class I have to take (which I didn't clue into when I registered). Sooooo, thanks you all for the reply! This website is SO COOL!!!!
  15. okay, after the last reply I am wondering if we are talking about the same math class. It's probability/statistics or MTH243. Most of you responded with it is very easy but the last post made me wonder, hmmmm? Let me know those of you who replied that is was easy if it was the same class I am going to be taking....Thanks you all!!
