Not all heros wear capes

Saved a life yesterday, Guys.

Girl comes in wearing her PE uniform and is on the verge of hysterical. Marks on both legs, deep blue. Tells me it was on her hands too a little while ago. FREAKING OUT about this skin condition that is spreading. No where else on body is affected.

I give it a long look and ask "Did you wear new jeans today?"

Yes, yes she did. Advised her to wash her pants before wearing again. I love my job.

I had a kindergartener come in the other day with a teacher, who was in a panic because of this bright red rash on his face and arms. No itching, no pain, but sure enough, kids arm was covered in spotches of bright red, and a few spots on his face. I took a look and then noticed his fingers were dirty, so I pulled out a baby wipe and started wiping his fingers, and then his arms. Walked him right back to class "cured". He played in his older sister's red hair dye the night before. That was a close one... :whistling:

Another life saved. Kudos.

Had something similar happen to me last year. Kid comes in freaking out about the blue coloring around her ankles - teacher wrote on the clinic referral - "Is losing circulation to her legs, feet turning blue!" yeah well, maybe if you hadn't worn those 2 sizes too small, brand-new never washed dark blue denim jeans......................... Seriously! COME ON NOW!!

Yes, ridiculous right!! And he is in 6th grade too. I swear I hope my kids aren't like this to their school nurse.

Well, one of my - ahem - finest moments as a nurse was when one of my PITA (pain-in- ... get it?) residents came up when I was in the middle of 3 other things (as usual), wanting me to wave Harry Potter's wand to immediately fix some kind of mysterious lower R abd pain. He'd already somehow irritated me that shift... but I quickly sized up him and the situation, gave him a generic Gas-x and advised that he walk around a bit (he uses a walker), and voila, never heard another word about it.

So I told my CNA's late that shift that they should've been impressed that I 'cured' a man of severe ABD pain!!

Can I... touch you?

Maybe your shine will rub off on me...

*looks at you worshipfully*

Oh be nice...I know you can, I've seen it...

Girl came in with 2 friends. Friends were VERY concerned about girl because she "got jumped" last night and beat up. Girl had bruising to her cheek, eye and neck and was eating up all of the attention she was getting from said concerned friends. Sent concerned friends away so I could assess girls sans drama. Took a close look at girl, grabbed an alcohol swab and proceeded to wipe off all of the black eye shadow "bruising" on her cheek, eye and neck. Referred girl to counseling and school resource officer. Her friends must have thought I was a MIRACLE WORKER!!!
