NOT going to the pinning ceremony

I have a previous degree, so going to some special occasion AND graduation is not something I'm interested in. I just want to go to graduation to get up on stage, grab my fake diploma, and walk away! lol

Apparently I'm the only one (that I know of at the moment) who's not going to the pinning ceremony. The teacher was all disappointed and thought I wasn't going because I'm going on vacation or something instead. I said, "No, I just don't care." She was saying how special it is and how I should go because I worked so hard. Yes, I HAVE worked so hard. And that is why I'm going to graduation and not wasting my time to walk around holding a lantern, get pinned, and watch everybody's silly pictures and paragraphs about themselves on some slide show. The whole thing seems way too cheesy for me. HAHHA. I told my non-classmate friends about it, and they totally agree with me.

Who else isn't going to their pinning ceremony? :nurse:

Had it not been so important to my mother, I wouldn't have even went to the actual graduation ceremony. We didn't have a separate "Pinning" ceremony as those who purchased pins received them during Graduation. Five years of college was enough, and I was over it. I wanted to take a break from all things Nursing for a couple of weeks (which I did), because after that it was time to buckle down for NCLEX review.

I'm going to my pinning, but not graduation. Our RN class is about 120 people, but the college graduation is closer to 1000 usually. I went to school to become an RN so the pinning is much more important to me. I did not enroll in school to get a 'degree'...I want my license. :yeah: They can mail me my diploma and I'll cherish it, but I agree with some of the previous posts...I don't care to sit there for 3-4 hours with people I've never met just to have my name called, walk across a stage and wear a cap/gown. I did that in high school. Besides, pinning is on Friday night and graduation is the next morning. Kinda takes the excitement away from the pinning (I think.) The pinning is specific for nurses. And those 120 people have gone through tests, clinicals, labs, blood, sweat and tears together.

But to each his own. If you don't want to go, that is up to you. Our pinning is required attendance, but I haven't heard of anyone in my class that doesn't want to go. Regardless, congrats on graduation! :nurse:

Oh, and to those of you who had not-so-great nursing school experiences, I feel so bad for you. I have been fortunate enough to go to a school with a dedicated and involved staff. All of our tests were NCLEX-style questions to get us ready for boards and our success was their main goal. I hate to hear that you didn't enjoy it (besides the massive amounts of clinical pre & post work and stressful exams, of course!) Hopefully, you'll enjoy your new career much more. :)

Maybe you see it as a just a ceremony, but for me it was very special. And it it remains so 30 years after the fact.

I am proud to wear my school pin and it is often a catalyst for conversation.

I have also had a great experience. Our pinning will be in December, and graduation will be the following May if we decide to go (I won't). My nursing class is about 40 persons...whereas the college graduation will consist of hundreds of people I haven't seen (whole college consisting of several campuses). We have had a great experience so far and every hospital in the area looks forward to student nurses from my campus.:yeah:

The pinning ceremony seems to be more special to nurses than graduating with everyone with every sort of degree. I'm going to pinning, but not graduation.

I didn't want to go to mine either for the same reasons so I didn't buy a pin. And then one of my nursing instructors (whom I adored) gave me one of her own pins (non-nursing) and I couldn't refuse. It wasn't so bad, except that everybody (but me) was dressed like they were going to some sort of formal event (they said business casual). Now at least I feel like I don't have to say I didn't go.

We were told to wear our hospital scrubs to pinning.

I am going to the ceremony with the intent of looking at the instructors and giving them the best smile I can with a bit of a smirk :-) I fought hard to succeed where they did their best to de-rail me. Barking, biting comments, tests that were not even on the material covered, no way to talk to them about it with ANY chance of being resolved, threats to fail if we did not comply to all the silly rules ( but rules change with the wind, so good luck remembering them all). In two years, they could never say my name correctly, and at clinical I think they said it in a way to be demeaning. I spoke to them no less than a dozen times, but finally just felt that ignoring it was easier. Anyhow, I am sure you get the drift.

If I could hug them and say HA! I succeeded in spite of you, I would :-)

This is my third degree and I have never experienced anything like these last 2.5 years. I am SO glad it is so close to being over. Stick that pin ON!

I didn't go to the pinning either...I was so tired of calling these nursing instructors Mrs. this, Mrs. that, ( I was older than all of them) I couldn't see my self going and uttering those salutations another time...we worked our butts, we wiped butts..I just couldn't kiss any more butts.

I'm going to the graduation but I"m not sure about the pinning ceremony. For one it costs $58-$114 for a pin. I was told we could get a pin from anywhere, but I haven't seen any I liked yet. Second, what else are we going to do besides the pinning? Will there be a luncheon? Will there be lanterns and a pledge? Either way it doesn't sound worth going to unless I hear otherwise.

for my ASN, I went to the pinning and grad (and the next day went back to sit in the same classroom with the same people for NCLEX review). For my BSN (all online thru a major university) I'm not going to either - Why go sit with a bunch of people I only interact with over the computer and have never met???
