NOT going to the pinning ceremony

Published

I have a previous degree, so going to some special occasion AND graduation is not something I'm interested in. I just want to go to graduation to get up on stage, grab my fake diploma, and walk away! lol

Apparently I'm the only one (that I know of at the moment) who's not going to the pinning ceremony. The teacher was all disappointed and thought I wasn't going because I'm going on vacation or something instead. I said, "No, I just don't care." She was saying how special it is and how I should go because I worked so hard. Yes, I HAVE worked so hard. And that is why I'm going to graduation and not wasting my time to walk around holding a lantern, get pinned, and watch everybody's silly pictures and paragraphs about themselves on some slide show. The whole thing seems way too cheesy for me. HAHHA. I told my non-classmate friends about it, and they totally agree with me.

Who else isn't going to their pinning ceremony? :nurse:

I don't blame you. I'd gag over that also. I'm working hard for a license, lol. I don't really care anything about a pin I'll never wear or another diploma to go in my literal drawers-full of assorted certificates and diplomas.

I'm **** sure not wearing white and holding some silly oil lamp.

I don't even remember being aware of any ceremony or such toward the end of my program. I felt that commuting to school was bother enough for me anyway.

So for graduation, you're just intermingled throughout the rest of the university students?

When I graduated college we did it by college and then alphabetically.

I don't remember the order nor care to, but it was like School of Graduate Studies students A-Z; diploma and hooding, College of Business A-Z, College of Liberal Arts A-Z, College of Science and Technology A-Z (where nursing is at my alma mater), and College of Education A-Z.

My university does it the same way. The person I was replying to stated that she was going to pinning because she'd be walking with folks she knows....but not graduation because she'd be walking with strangers.

I was trying to figure out if maybe her university mixes all the schools up.

I have no interest in either, but im pretty sure the fam will make me go! lol

I did the opposite. Didn't care about walking on stage to get a fake diploma with the entire college, so I didn't go.

I went to the pinning ceremony only because it was only nursing and it was great to celebrate with the people I studied with, sacrificed so much and spent so much time with while in the nursing program.

I'm confused, you're not the first person who's mentioned a "fake" diploma.

Why do you feel your diploma is fake?

Why do you feel your diploma is fake?

Fake as in it's not your real diploma. They mail you the one that counts. The one they hand to you during graduation is just for show.

I'm taking a guess, but I've heard that college will oftentimes use placeholder "diplomas" in lieu of the real thing and send the real one in the mail at a later time.

The real diploma is usually provided long after the ceremony. A "fake" diploma is placed in the folder for the ceremony. Usually has to do with the time frame for finalizing records and producing the "final" product, once everything is set in stone.

I see.

Different priorities I suppose....it never occurred to me that the point of the ceremony was to receive the piece of paper.

The way I see it, they're awarding my degree to me, not a diploma.

Yep. I can't recall what they handed us in college. Probably the form with attached price sheet on which you could order a diploma.

I do recall that my high school diploma was a rolled up sheet of blank typing paper with a ribbon around it. Fancy.

Yet without the diploma or transcript you have no evidence of ever having been in college....except for some receipts and bills perhaps, lol.
