Dear Whoopi Goldberg, Michelle Collins, Raven Simone, Joy Behar and the View,

Do you think we get it now as nurses? I hope you get it and actually comprehend no longer is it okay to verbally diminish this profession. Nurses' are harassed, bullied, portrayed as being idiots in the media. The platform that you guys have is powerful, but it is not being used to build someone up instead you attempted to tear this profession down. I totally believe in the first amendment. However, you guys have made the attempt to discredit my profession. If you walked in the shoe of just a nurse” for one day your attitude of us not getting it" would change. I originally was not going to comment because I know they have a right to their opinions. However, I replayed the video multiple times to ensure I heard what they stated clearly. When does a nurse that decided to share a personal experience with a patient equivalent someone reading his or her email”? Followed by give the doctor their stethoscope back it is not okay nor will ever be okay.

Although I think Miss Colorado makes an excellent spokesperson for the nursing profession, I also have a hunch that the 'personal experience' she shared regarding the Alzheimer's patient was partially or totally fabricated.

She received her RN license a few weeks ago and has no real work experience as a nurse, so I think the conversation is a figment of a vivid imagination.

However, I'll reiterate that she would be an outstanding spokesperson for the nursing profession. She's smart and articulate. Moreover, the public tends to pay more attention to what's being spoken when the speaker is a conventionally attractive person such as Kelley Johnson.

In nursing school you do get plenty of real world R.N experience and if it was like my school you have 12 hour shifts after fundamentals. One semester was clinical one semester lecture I will not discredit nor agree that this individual has no experience. I am glad she expressed her profession as her talent because being a nurse is a talent. However, I am hurt that the View made every attempt to brush this comment over with no real apology. Sometimes word can hurt harder than physically hitting someone. This why I started this poll and thread.

The View has said a lot of things about a lot of people. I wouldn't let that get to me.

Here is my main problem with this whole situation: First of all, I ABHORE the Miss America pageants. I think it's utterly ridiculous that this competition, which includes parading beautiful women around in ridiculous outfits, results in a scholarship. Why in the world is a bikini show criteria for this scholarship? My big problem is that The View attacked a contestant for delivering something atypical. Instead of strutting around with her boobs bouncing all over the place, she looked like a professional and delivered a monologue, which IS a talent. It takes talent to make an audience connect with you. She gave the audience a window into her emotions and her job. Her monologue built other nurses up while putting a spotlight on the value of her patients as human beings. I am mad for her. I'm mad that she put herself out there in a beautiful way and was attacked for it.

I totally agree with you and agree she used her platform to build up the nursing profession while the View. While the View made every attempt to discredit a professional monologue.

I think the most effective way to get the message to a show like this is through an economic type of boycott. You are not gonna get The View cancelled. Nope. BUT you can hit them in the wallet by boycotting and explaining why, the products and services of their major advertisers. It's effect and carries a strong message. Shows like the View depend heavily on such sponsorship to continue their broadcasting.

Who sponsors the View? Is there a formal list? I read on tmz a couple of companies pulling out.

All of the companies that run commercials during The View are, in essence, sponsors of this program.

Procter & Gamble is a loyal sponsor. They run commercials for Pampers, Dawn dish washing soap, Tide, Charmin, Bounty, Ivory, Cheer, Gain detergent, Febreze, Crest toothpaste, Secret deodorant, Scope mouthwash, and all the other products they make that appeal to the female housewife demographic.

if anything the view should be cancelled because its just a bunch of old hags complaining about irrelevant stuff and bullying. who needs that kind of negativity

It may attract more viewers because there is no such thing as bad publicity but them losing sponsors and ads could cost the show millions.

Hey no name calling. I agree that they are bullying and they are negative, but should the show be cancelled?

I agree. I question whether the show should be cancelled The host of the View have an outlet to address negativity, bullying, and host of topics. I always tell people to whom much is given, much is expected. We as nurses are given the opportunity to save people lives. They are given an opportunity to inform the public. However did they fail to do their job? Should the show be cancelled? Please answer the poll.
