Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) Spring 2021

Published

Hello All,

We are the Advisors and Counselors at the Medical Education Campus with Northern Virginia Community College. We will attempt to answer your questions about the upcoming Spring 2021 Nursing admissions process.

Application website

https://www.nvcc.edu/medical/apply/

Application Period

July 20 to September 20

Entry Requirments

  • All course work must be final by the program deadline of September 20, 2020. Course work that
  • Ends after the deadline of September 20, 2020, will not count
  • has not transferred AND posted to your NOVA account from an external school Including other VCCS schools, will not count.
    • For example, you submit your GMU transcript on September 20, 2020, and your transfer credit post-September 31, your applicants would have been rejected.

Common reasons applications don't make it past the initial review for eligibility

  1. The student did not take a course listed as an entry requirement
  2. The student took a course listed as an entry requirement but never transferred the credit to NOVA via the official transfer credit process.
  3. The student had a C- or did not take a required high school level course
  4. The student never provided their high school transcript with their application.

We are still waiting on the final word for the ATI TEAS exam. Check our website for an update on July 17.

  1. GPA of 2.5 at NOVA or if you have never taken NOVA courses a 2.5 at your most recent school
  2. Completion of ENG 111 or higher
  3. Completion of SDV 101 or SDV 100
  4. Completion of BIO 141
  5. Completion fo PSY 230
  6. Completion of Open elective [ BIO 150 and BIO 142 can not be used as open electives]
  7. Provide high school transcript-
    1. If your high school was in a different country you will need a course by course evaluation by either www.ece.org or www.ierf.org.
    2. All students regardless of the level of education are required to provide their high school transcripts
    3. not doing so will automatically flag your application and lead to a rejection
  8. Show that you took and passed in high school or college with a C or better [not C-]. If you took some other science course in place of Chemistry for example it is likely that it will not count.
    1. BIology
    2. Algebra
    3. Chemistry

How will you be ranked

Ranking criteria are listed on the information session(

and in the nursing brochure (https://www.nvcc.edu/academics/divisions/nursing/_docs/nsg-brochure.pdf) ) Please carefully review these documents and follow all steps to submit a complete application.

Hello, this is my first time on here. I applied to nova’s nursing program for the Fall 2020 and was rejected because there was too many applicants. I have A’s in Bio 141, Psy 230, Bio 142 literally I have all A’s. I still got rejected. I applied for Fall semester and was told my application was incomplete due to not taking Algebra in High School. Now I am taking Math 154 to full fill the math. I am honestly about to have enough credits to graduate from Nova. I am just going to apply to GMU at this point. I’m not sure if I will try to apply again for Fall 2021. Sorry I’m probably just ranting but I really want to get into nursing if I’m rejected again it will be the third time:( Good Luck too all of you:)

What were your stats each time you applied?

I’m in too! Congratulations to everyone accepted, can’t wait to meet you all! ❤️

I got an A in BIO 141, Bio 142, Eng 111, Psy 230, SDV, and I have an A in all other courses besides Bio 101 which I got a B. The only course missing is Microbiology which I plan on taking now either in the Spring or Fall semester.

Hi Everybody,

I got my acceptance letter as well. Words cannot describe how happy I am. Congratulations to all who got acceptance and to those who did not, DO NOT GIVE UP! I wanted to give up many times but forced myself to keep trying. Good Luck Everybody.

I'm 41 and a divorced parent, so it's time for me to look at a different school or a different occupation. I love patient care, so this is disappointing. I am a CCMA ( there is no growth with that).  Congrats to everyone!  I have an A.S. and retook A and P.  I have all the prereqs for Mason and Core.  I just think there will be so many students applying that I don't stand a chance there.  I don't have anything less than a B, but it's not straight As.  Good luck to everyone this Spring. Congrats ?

Hopefully wondering if decisions are still trickling in. Did acceptance letters come all at the same time for those of you who received an acceptance?

I fully understand were you are coming from. It's very frustrating not knowing where all your hard work is taking you. I would say apply to Mason and see what happens. Thats what my plan was if I was rejected again for Nova's program. You won't lose anything by trying to apply there especially since the HESI is no longer required. On the downside Mason traditional program is 15 credits a semester, which can be a lot. Good Luck to you.

I don't think everybody got an email yet. There are a few people saying they didn't get one yet.

I did not receive one at all, but pretty sure that with so many people everyone has a 4.0. I don't mind doing the HESI or the TEAS testing, if it means it will help me overcome a few B's. When I was younger, I had a lot of family stress and poor academics.( I redid ever single class)...it's stilI part of the permanent record. I just think most people are pretty much straight A students that get in.   I have no more credits I can take at NVCC.  I only needed nursing classes.  I can now apply to be awarded my  second A.S degree from NVCC LOL. I keep doing all of the work and steps to be better, and I don't feel like I get anywhere.  So I just have to pick another major and apply to Mason for Spring.   To finish a BS in something? I'm not sure. I wanted nursing for so long, but maybe I am on the wrong path.  It's very frustrating. However that's life, I have to adapt. I tell my daughters that I hope they go to college right away and they don't stop until they have achieved everything they want to when they are younger.  The older you get, the more you realize how many doors are closed and oppurtunities are lost.

Hi Guys,

I didn’t apply this period but I have a question. Does anyone know of a person who had an A in all co reqs, A in PSY, and B in BIO 141 and still got in.

thanks,

aise

I'm not sure when everyone else's came out, but mine was in my inbox just before 1PM (at 12:48 to be exact). They might be doing them in batches to make it easier?

Hello! I fully understand your frustration. You should get an email, whether or not it's an acceptance. This was my second time applying and I have roughly a 3.8 GPA (which went down from the last application cycle because of my BIO150 grade over the Summer).
