Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) Spring 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello All,

We are the Advisors and Counselors at the Medical Education Campus with Northern Virginia Community College. We will attempt to answer your questions about the upcoming Spring 2021 Nursing admissions process.

Application website

https://www.nvcc.edu/medical/apply/

Application Period

July 20 to September 20

Entry Requirments

  • All course work must be final by the program deadline of September 20, 2020. Course work that
  • Ends after the deadline of September 20, 2020, will not count
  • has not transferred AND posted to your NOVA account from an external school Including other VCCS schools, will not count.
    • For example, you submit your GMU transcript on September 20, 2020, and your transfer credit post-September 31, your applicants would have been rejected.

Common reasons applications don't make it past the initial review for eligibility

  1. The student did not take a course listed as an entry requirement
  2. The student took a course listed as an entry requirement but never transferred the credit to NOVA via the official transfer credit process.
  3. The student had a C- or did not take a required high school level course
  4. The student never provided their high school transcript with their application.

We are still waiting on the final word for the ATI TEAS exam. Check our website for an update on July 17.

  1. GPA of 2.5 at NOVA or if you have never taken NOVA courses a 2.5 at your most recent school
  2. Completion of ENG 111 or higher
  3. Completion of SDV 101 or SDV 100
  4. Completion of BIO 141
  5. Completion fo PSY 230
  6. Completion of Open elective [ BIO 150 and BIO 142 can not be used as open electives]
  7. Provide high school transcript-
    1. If your high school was in a different country you will need a course by course evaluation by either www.ece.org or www.ierf.org.
    2. All students regardless of the level of education are required to provide their high school transcripts
    3. not doing so will automatically flag your application and lead to a rejection
  8. Show that you took and passed in high school or college with a C or better [not C-]. If you took some other science course in place of Chemistry for example it is likely that it will not count.
    1. BIology
    2. Algebra
    3. Chemistry

How will you be ranked

Ranking criteria are listed on the information session(

and in the nursing brochure (https://www.nvcc.edu/academics/divisions/nursing/_docs/nsg-brochure.pdf) ) Please carefully review these documents and follow all steps to submit a complete application.

Hi everyone! I’ve been stalking both this Spring 2021 page as well as the Fall 2020 page for months and months on end. Applied for the first time for Spring 2021 and I’m so, so thankful to be a part of the Class of December  2022. I cannot wait to meet you all soon!

I did this!! I did this before I even tried to apply for the first time. It’s well worth the money/time/energy!

Hi! if you don't mind me asking, what were your stats like? I am applying for the Spring of 2022 and am nervous since I have a B in psych 230

Hi! I’m in my second semester of the program so if you’d like for me to answer some of your questions leave your email and I’d happily answer them for you!

hey I have a question to ask, I know most of you guys got accepted in the Spring of 2021 but do you all know around what time they start reaching out for step 2? I applied for Spring 2022. and my application has been move to step 2 about two weeks ago and I just really want to know around what time they begin to reach out to students before the rejection letters.

Hi, our class did not start receiving notifications until the beginning of November.  It seemed like a long time. The process did take a couple of weeks because some people did not take spots. I would say looking back.... everyone knew by the third week of November.  The nursing office has had record breaking numbers of applications to sort through.  Hang in there! I know the wait was difficult for me too!  This time last year, I felt like I kept constantly checking my email.  They did say to us that anywhere from the third week of October to mid November.   So keep working hard on other classes if you need to take those. ????. Hang in there ?

Still waiting to hear back myself.  I've been keeping an eye on the course catalog for Spring and the nursing program is still working on setting up their courses. So maybe when that's done, we'll know something?

I see. I wish there was section for the upcoming Spring semester. Have you taken the TEAS prior?

Anyone else get a letter today?

I started a new post for NOVA Spring 22 in this forum.

I did got a denial letter w all A’s and 4.0 GPA. I got A’s in all pre requisites. For what I read on this forum I was denied because I didn’t complete any co-requisites. I’m taking BIO 142 and will finish within the next 3 weeks. I’ll take Microbiology in January, but I don’t think I’ll be over in time to apply for the Fall session (March 1st).
I saw on NOVAs website that the TEAS center reopens on August 2nd. How are we supposed to take the TEAS in time for Fall application in March??!

On the website it says testing center opened on 8/2/21. Do you know if that is accurate?
