Trying to find any first hand knowledge on NKU's online MSN program set up. How the classes were presented, professor support, would you recommend the programs, I'm interested in the acute care NP Program specifically.
Hello! Does anyone have any insight about the FNP program at NKU. Noticed these posts were in 2018. Hoping someone can provide their experience/opinion about their program as I'm getting ready to apply for it! Any info would be helpful.
Is 7 weeks for each course doable? Especially for pharm, patho, assessment?
Hello..
I have applied for the FNP-PMHNP post Masters Cert.. but I’m confused about the board exam. If I’m already an FNP-BC, do I take the same PMHNP exam as someone who doesn’t already have an FNP.
Don't recommend it. I did quit another program a few years ago due to a major life change (divorce, abusive ex, moving, changing jobs, etc) and so I have some experience with another new online program.
Some complaints include I don't feel like they properly prepare you. The pharm class felt like it was all over the place in terms of content. At the time, they let us use our book to help but gave us limited time. They no longer allow that and it doesn't feel like they changed the format at all. I have experience with another program and their questions felt much more straight forward and useful instead of the random bit of knowledge.
They changed the format but their physical assessment class had it set up so you get graded at the end on a physical assessment but you never had any feedback during the class in how you are doing. My friend who was a resident that I used said I did fine but they still managed to rip me to shreds. He also commented that he thought it was weird a school would not have us to practice sessions or break up the whole head to toe at all so we can get feedback.
That physical assessment class was a mess over all with technical glitches. Every answer on one of the quizzes was A or C. I forget which. The instructor said it wasn't. What happened was that the instructor instead of randomizing it as the bullet points randomized it herself by doing it this way: Who is Bob?
A. Mary
B. Cat
C. Andrew
D. Bob
Then the bullet choices were
A. C
B. A
C. D
D. B
So she randomized it by putting C as the correct answer.
Physical assessment also requires you to get a professional setting to do the check off. Okay... so you want us to go to random clinics and beg them to let us use a room? Or dirty up a hospital room? The other school brought us in and gave us two tries for the physical assessment along with practicing pelvic exams, scrotal exams, and prostate exams on medical models. Feedback helped as I could see what to actually do.
Another issue is I have no idea what I am supposed to be doing in terms of school. It is hard to get a hold of people. The other school had it set up straight forward where you do A, B, C or you do A, B if you are part-time whereas this is you need 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 but they are only offered certain terms so you should do 2, 4, 1, if you start this date but if you start 7 weeks later you should do 4, 1, 3, 2, 7, 5.
No clinical placement but that is pretty standard now a days even with on campus programs.
People who went to Walden seemed more satisfied with their program than here. If you want a cheap program,
