I think it was a waste of money as well....and agree that it was just 'busy work'.

IMHO, you really only need the access code.

What about the final exam? Did you need the book to be able to do decently on it?

I soooo appreciate all the comments. It makes me feel better about not wanting to buy it!

There wasn't a final exam. There was a quiz in the middle of the semester that you could get less points than what you usually get. Like I got 9.5 points out of 10, but most of my friends got 6/10 points. She posts a question, you answer it, then you post to your classmates. During the semester you also have a time where you will post your resume and get points for it. Basically do what she says, post, post, and post some more and you will get an A.

Like the other posters have said, it is more busy work than anything else. This is the one class you shouldn't worry about! Just get it done and worry about clinicals and lecture. Good luck to you.

This semester, there is a final exam that is worth 25% of your grade. I guess it has changed from last year. The rest is resume, posting, the professional meetings, etc. I just don't know whether the test is based on the book or module....I'll just be glad when I'm done with this ridiculous, disorganized mess of a school....

Well that sucks....If you still feel like you may need the book, I would be glad to give you mine. I still say worry more about lecture and clinicals. Lecture was especially my achilles heel. There is a much better world once out of "El Hell hole" as some of my classmates used to call it.

About the book: You can just go to a library and read an older version, it's almost the same as I rememeber.

:nurse: How are the internships going for you recent graduates? And when are you going to be on your own?

This is Plastic surgery's last week for us on orientation. We will be on our own next week. Of course they make sure that you know you are never on your own. It is going good so far, but I still feel like an infant nurse sometimes. At times I feel like I have graduated to a teenager. What I have learned is to just stick with it and ask for help if needed.

Oh yes....the resume' portion. I had to do that a month or more after I had accepted an intern position...back in Feb. WHAT A WASTE OF MY TIME!!! We told the instructor that too.

Katie, I've been on the job only since July 21st, and only in the OR for 3 weeks now with my preceptor. It's a 9-month internship, so I have a while to go.

I have heard from one of our externs on our unit that there supposed to be a new test for all graduates that will cover the nurse practice act. Maybe that is what they are talking about for the final. But the book will not help too much for that either.

In regards to my internship, Katie, it is going ok. I am still feeling very overwhelmed at times. L&D is so much like a womens ER, you never know what comes through those doors and everything is very fast paced. School only prepares you very little for L&D. I am relieved when I hear from my fellow nurses, how they also had a hard time in the beginning and even cried often. I broke down a couple of weeks ago, when my preceptor and I had to tell a mom that her baby was dead in utero. It was heartbreaking, this was the second time for this mom, to lose a baby :crying2:.

Sometimes I wish, I could be on postpartum, where I wanted to go first, but I know it will get better. My preceptor keeps telling me, I am doing good. I just don't feel myself, that I am:uhoh3:.

The final is over the book and online course. We will be the first graduating class that has to take a juris prudence test over the practice act, but that is unrelated to the management course final. That would be tough to tell a mom. I hope things get better...hang in there.

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

Yeah, the jurisprudence test is not through the school ... it's like an addition to the NCLEX -- we are required to pass it to get licensed.

I cannot imagine how rough that was to have to tell the mom. My thoughts are with both of you.

Specializes in Operating Room.

Yes, Diane told us about that last semester.

You have to pass that test, in order to even take the NCLEX.

I'd hate to have to be there to share that sad moment. Luckily, we haven't lost anyone in the OR. Hopefully, it never happens to me. (Of course, I hear that anything that happens, usually happens in ICU...not OR.)
