Katie, or anyone else who used Saunder's to study for the NCLEX....What %'s were you making?

...Just seeing if I'm in the ballpark of where I need to be. :)

I don't know what % I made on NCLEX, it's a pass or fail test.

I did use Saunders among other books but I neved counted points or %. I was too nervous to do that. I just did at least 100 questions a day and reviewed answers.

How is your studying going?

I do use Saunders also. I don't know percentage wise where I am at, either. I also try to do 100 questions a day and study the chapters in the review book, but I feel like my head just can't take in any more, almost to much. With the questions, I panic sometimes. Because I am around the 2000 mark and there are sometimes questions like, what is the normal dosage of this drug or that specific side effect, and I have no clue. Then there are question of stuff I have never heard off and I start to panic, and I feel like I don't know anything. I have bookmarked so many, it's not even funny.:eek: Gee, I don't know what I am even saying anymore. I need a break, lol.

I have done AT LEAST 100 questions a day since the day after the HESI, besides maybe 4-5 days that I only did around 50.

Some days, I have done 200, others more than 200. (Depends if I am the only one home....lol)

I am hovering the 3500 mark by now, I think.

I think those, "OMG, I never heard of that before" questions are great, actually. I read the rationals, then on some, I do a search on IGGY/Lewis for more details. I feel like the questions are paying off a little more when I learn something new. LOL

Have any of you read the tips from the Kaplan book? As I remember there are only a few (200?) questions in the book but the tips are great. Before I took the big test I went to a bookstore and read the tips. It can be done it two days.

Good luck, you all are almost there. :yeah:

Not from a book, but I went through the 'free' tips on the KaplanNursing website.

I'm getting really bored with studying. lol I know I still have so much I don't know, but I am really ready to try to get this monster beaten!!!

Did anybody get an extern position during the summer before 3rd sem or during 3rd semester? What department do you feel is the best to start in to actually get a few skills and would not be too overwhelming?

What are you wanting to do when you finish school?

That's where I'd start...OR, ER, ICU, Med-Surg....the experience will prove invaluable, and may get you a job waiting for you when you graduate.

I worked as an extern my last semester at Charlton Methodist in L&D and am now an intern there.

I originally tried to get an extern position before my third semester, but was unsuccessfull. It may be a little too late for you to get a so called extern position now. I know that Charlton and Methodist externs started already last week. But you can try to get in to Baylor, or check out other hospitals . They don't have extern position, but I believe they have something especially for students, where you get to do some skills besides CNA work. I am not sure what they call it, though.

Also in where you want to go, this depends on you. The most skills, I am sure, you would learn on a MED/Surg floor, but if your heart is set on something else , then go for that.

I know ya'll are busy studying, but does anyone happen to have the 4th semester powerpoints and/or tegrity files? I'm *really* hoping I can get a copy of the ppt files so I can get a jump on stuff.

If you have them, please let me know and I will PM you my email address (or, if you already have it, please send them over!). Thanks for any help!

I sent you a link to the Tegrity....if they are still available.
