I'm going to be at the NLC campus! See you in June for orientation!
Also, congrats for making it to the next semester to all new 2nd - 4th semester NLC/ECC student nurses & congrats to the graduates! :balloons:
Good luck to everyone!
katie/allison....y'all don't do skills check-offs anymore, correct? how many 1-day skills lab days do y'all have in 3rd semester? what do you do in them? do y'all do instant repeat check-offs like the ng tube insertion was for 2nd semester?y'all have 1 or 2 clinical days, and only go to the school 1 x week for lecture, correct?
how do y'all pick your clinicals?
we had 2 skills lab with our clinical instructor: one day for iv and one day for trach seminar. no check-offs but she wants to see that you can do the skills in the lab. there are two sort-of-check offs in the hospital. your instructor wants to see that you can do a physical assessment on a real pt (do as you learned in 1st semester) and that you can hang a ivpb. these are much easier check offs than what you have just done.
i have lectures on wednesday and clinicals on thursdays and fridays. i think it's better to have clinicals after lecture but there are groups that have clinicals on monday-tuesday.
how did you pick your clinicals?
first i like to ask other people about clinical instructors. then i check out the hospitals (location, size, etc) and make a list. then i wait to see what i have won on the lottery. you can send me the names of your 3rd semester instructors as soon as you get it. :balloons:
and congrats on finishing skills lab!
katie
Thanks, Katie! ....For the congrats and the 3rd semester info.
I had a bunch of friends asking me about how 3rd semester is ran!
I promise you all.....no matter how much I KNEW I was totally ready for the final skills check-off, I was prepared to FAIL because of a certain person that happens to tell me what grade I made!
She needed a break, and I checked-off with the skills lab coordinator/RN. Luckily, I have practiced/asked questions, etc from her all semester, and I know how she teaches. Therefore, I know her style. If I had not, I would have either failed, or had mega points off. ....Every instructor is different!
uggggh.....I'm just glad it's over!
Allison.........If you survived, God help you. We've had the WORST semester EVER, and I am PRAYING for my other classmates that have to check-off on the 27th!
Allison,
I send you a PM also ,concerning choices of clinical sites/instructors for 3rd semester, (maybe you didn't get it), I was hoping you could give me some tips? :uhoh21: I am getting a little nervous about next semester, I know there will be so much more responsibilities, I didn't feel like we got do much more, then observing this semester.

hope you did well on your mcp, spill! :)
yin....i haven't heard if they are changing or not. we sent our choices in and then they were to draw names, or numbers, whatever.... if you ended up getting your name drawn before your first choice was filled, then you got your 1st choice. if not, then they look at your second choice, and so on.
