yep, seems no time to breathe this semester ,or barely:smilecoffeecup:

When you took the HPRS1204 course in the Fall, how did you practice the catheterizations? I am starting the course in March and am curious to know...surely we use "dummies" or such.

Thanks guys - hopefully I'll be starting in the Fall...

They are making HPRS1204 a pre-req now, starting with all Fall applicants. I'm kinda excited, finally a nursing class :-)

yes you will use dummies , good luck

Specializes in Operating Room.

Good luck, PreNurseKirk.

All injections, caths, etc are on dummies. I'm sure the school's insurance doesn't allow for injections, etc to be performed on each other.

Specializes in ER.

Thank God....I wouldn't want to be practiced on by most people...lol. Especially not NG tubes, urinary caths, etc. ICKY!!

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

Yeah, I could *prolly* get past the shots, but not the NGTs or caths!

Specializes in Operating Room.

When I went to MA school, we practiced on each other.

We gave each other shots, finger sticks, EKGs, and venipuntures (blood draws)!

It does help to practice on live people instead of dummies (or only on dummies), but dummies are just par for the course in the land of make-believe. :lol2:

(I have to agree when it comes to catheters and NGTs! ...ummm.....come 'ere dummy!) :uhoh3:

When it comes times for shots, I'll start hunting down by diabetic friends.

Just don't tell anyone. :uhoh21:

Iris told us about a girl that got kicked out because she told about practicing the Foley on her child.

Not sure if that's rumor, or true, but it did come from Iris.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Tele.

omg:eek: (did she watch "Sybill" or something like that)

Have any of you done a cath on a real patient yet? How did it go?
