Incoming to Bismarck

U.S.A. North Dakota

Just accepted a job there. Anything fun I should know?

Specializes in Hematology/Oncology.
Hi

I am looking into job in ND since I cannot find a job since graduating Dec. 13 in CA. However, I have a teenage daughter and am a single mom, so kind of worry the safety issue when she is at home while I am working.

Can anyone working there offer any insight? I am willing to put all my pay check into a good housing area and a baby sitter. I am dying to get into a hospital and would dip into my savings or borrow money to gain for 1-2 year of hospital experiences.

Any information appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the crime statistics out here. My apartment is pretty safe. How old is your daughter?

Hey DatMurse!

I cant send a PM for whatever reason so I will do this. I am a new grad down in Denver and I am thinking of doing what you did in order to be in my preferred specialty. I have a few q's if you dont mind, and I will make sure not to ask any that you have already answered in other posts on here about Bismark/St. A's. I have already spoken with HR and am getting the ball rolling. My email is [email protected]. Thanks, Matt

Hi everyone

A thank you note for all the input shared by new graduates who have relocated to ND. Good karma :)

I had the phone interview last Friday and heard from my previous employer that someone from ND called to verif my employment history. Keeping my fingers crossed....

I am looking into Mandan area and checking the nearby school for my 9th grader. I am nervous to take the big plunge as I m worried that I would not be able to go through the orientation as I have no clinical since December.

Will update once I make up my mind.

Well, here comes another CA new(ish) grad to St. A's in Bismarck! Applied late June and accepted the offer today, so excited to begin on the floor I wanted. All I need to know is which night is taco night and does United Airlines frown on a suit case full of avocados? Oh, and how's the skiing? But seriously, I appreciate the posts by DatMurse; his descriptions of St Alexius sound very positive and I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone.

Keep us posted on how it all goes. Good luck and God Speed.

Anyone have suggestions on getting an apartment in Bismarck/Mandan while still out of state? I found a couple properties close to the hospital that are owned by Goldmark properties, but they don't seem to answer their phone! Anyway, who have you found helpful?

So I found a place with a short term lease over the phone/internet. For any one else coming to Bismarck here are some of the resources I found helpful in my search. I don't endorse any over the other and I hope this helps you start your search. Have fun.

Bismarck-Mandan Apartment Association A General aggregation of some of the larger apartment management companies with a searchable database in list or map format

North Dakota Apartment Association Similar to the above but can select cities across ND.

Bismanonline Seems to be the de facto Bismarck Craigslist.

Craigslist Meh. The above is the preferred alternative.

Alliance MGMT Group This group didn't show up with the above searches. A nice set of apartments in Mandan that I believe DatMurse can speak to.

IMM Another set of properties that didn't show up in the above searches. At first glance seems to be the easiest to apply online.

Goldmark Maybe the largest property management group in town. They show up in the searches above and you seem to have to contact each property separately for availability. I found it hit or miss whether you'll get through to some properties in their stable.

Please add any that you've found helpful too.
