Incoming to Bismarck

Just accepted a job there. Anything fun I should know?

I agree and I do wish overall the base pay was more but at this point I'm new and more than anything the experience is what I'm seeking so I can move on.

Yeah, thats how i see it too. But if the pay was better instead of becoming a stepping stone for new grads to get experience, it would be a permanent place to work at for many.

Definately..I would stay there if the pay was better. I feel career wise it's a good move for new grads because you get in they train you and because they have such a need for nurses there after the initial year one can probably specialize in their chosen field and gain experience in other needed nursing areas..many doors will be open as a result. Have you applied to any of the hospitals yet, if so, which one?

I am still completing my nursing program, but i am already planning as to where to go when i graduate to get my first years of experience. So i like to survey and explore opportunities, so far all points towards North Dakota as the best place to start.

Do you know if they offer incentives when picking OT?

Specializes in Cath/EP lab, CCU, Cardiac stepdown.

I believe that both St. Alexius, and Sanford have incentives for picking up shifts.

I agree that it would be nice if the base pay would be higher but honestly cost of living is lower than higher paying areas. If you compare it to New York's pay of course it will be lower but at the same time, ny is insanely expensive to live.

I think their programs are very reasonable and have a great support system, but it is daunting to relocate. It is extremely hard to be hired onto specialty for a lot of new grads too in the higher paying areas but north Dakota does it.

If you have any questions, you should really call the nurse recruiters, they're very nice. Also @Datmurse has been a tremendous resource as well. So you can try to hit him up for a few quick questions if he doesn't mind.

Thank you for the info about incentives! Cost of living have been going up in ND because of the oilfield boom, so i hole wages hold up to that. I wish they offer NY kind of wages with the lower cost of living, that would be awesome, lol.

I have already picked DatMurse brain occasionally, he is been a wonderful help and guide. Thank you for recommending him to me though.

I am eager to finish my nursing program and find a position in ND.
