U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Ok folks - it is that time again .... there are many new names and faces (well avatars anyway) on our web site ... time to get to know the North Carolina people.

Lets give a location - why you are there, your current nursing status and anything else you might want to share ....

I am Patrick, the moderator for the North Carolina Forum ... live in Asheville - moved here a year ago from Florida and love the mountains and the moderate climate .... can tell you that Hurricane Frances breezed through town last week and gave us a lot of headaches! Anyway, I am a nurse manager for a med-surg unit and a single father of 3. I attend the University of Phoenix and am hoping to graduate with my BSN-MSN in the very near future. :coollook:

Hi--This is my very first posting on the this forum! I am a North Carolina native.

I work @ Duke in Durham. I'm a cardio-thoracic nurse. I've been out of school about 5 months. :smiley_aa

Welcome to our forum :balloons: It's great to have you here and we look forward to hearing more from you.

hello, everyone.

I live in the greensboro area. I have been a nurse for 20 years. The last 8 years has an RN. I am a graduate of Excelsior College, "the non traditional independent study nursing program." I love nursing and continue to be happy that I went on to be an RN. My husband is also a nurse (lpn w/ no desire to go on and that's ok.) We moved here 13 years ago from upstate New York to beautiful NC to raise our two children. Our son will graduate in december from Appalachian State, our married daughter lives in Chesapeake, Va. I work in long term care (same facility since movng here) as an MDS Coordinator. And am glad to have found this site.

Hi everyone,

I am new to this site. I am in my second semester of nursing classes. I am pursing my RN degree at Rowan Cabarrus CC in Salisbury NC. I am 32 yrs old and have decided to change careers. Any advice for me on my journey would be helpful and appreciated. Does anyone think getting a degree at a CC change the pay scale compared to a 4 year college degree?

welcome, learning2nurse :melody: :balloons: feel free to visit the student nursing forums for advice and moral support (especially the nursing student assistance forum). in answer to your question, in most cases no - the beginning pay scale for graduate adns and bsns is, in most cases, identical. however, later in your career, this could make a difference in advancement opportunities. my advice - after graduation, pursue your bsn through one of the many online rn-bsn programs throughout the state. best wishes to you :)

Hi All!

My name is Shannon and I am a student at Central Carolina Community College here in my small town. I live in Benson NC, which is just like Mayberry. I grew up in Colorado but we moved out here to NC and both started college. My husband attends Campbell University. I am currently working on my pre reqs to get into the ADN program at CCCC.

The program has just started a point system instead of a waiting list so I am not sure how long of a wait I will have to get into the program. I LOVE the allnurses forms and can't stay away!

Hugs to everyone :icon_hug:

Shannon, we're practically neighbors :p

I have one semester before graduation from Wake Tech's ADN program. We also have the point system, which imo is much better than sitting on a waiting list.

Anyway, welcome to allnurses....I'm sure you'll love it here
