Hi everyone,
I just received my preceptorship placement and found out I am at a Kaiser hospital in the Sacramento area of Northern California. I am disappointed because I have heard that Northern California Kaiser hospitals do not hire new grads; I was wondering if anyone else has heard this? I'm trying to be upbeat and grateful that I even got a preceptorship as I know people last year did not because of Covid, but it's hard when my classmates are being placed in hospitals where they will at least make connections and have a chance of being hired post-graduation. I just need some uplifting advice as I'm pretty down right now. Thanks!

I graduated in 2019 in the Bay Area and I don't think any of my classmates got hired where they precepted. It's not really a thing anymore, so I wouldn't be too upset. Just maximize your time on the floor at Kaiser and learn as much as you can. Make a strong connection with your preceptor and then at the very least she/he can be a reference for you when you start job hunting. Then be prepared for a grueling job hunt. I started working eight months after I graduated, but after that one year of experience I am now offered interviews at Kaiser and Sutter and recently accepted a new position at neither Kaiser nor Sutter.
Good luck!
Thank you for your advice and kind words. I appreciate it greatly!

I always thought the same about Kaiser not hiring new grads, but I actually just came across this flyer the other day for their Norcal Nurse Residency Program!

Yup it's true, I applied and just got an email back, and here is what it says.
Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your submission of interest to our Kaiser Permanente Northern California Nurse Residency Program. The program supports newly licensed registered nurses (RNs) as they make their initial transition to practice into one of our 21 Northern California medical centers. The program consists of a comprehensive evidence-based clinical orientation in addition to a 12-month transition to-practice supported by Vizient and AACN’s nationally recognized curriculum.
Congratulations! You have been selected to move forward in the screening process. I have outlined the next steps and program details below.
Big CONGRATS to you!! woot woot! good luck on the rest of the process!
Thanks Whitney E

Congrats @Simplyunique. I have been checking my email and so far nothing. Hope it comes soon. I am so nervous.
Thanks,
I just applied yesterday night to 6 locations. I really wasn't expecting a response back, since I got an offer at a local hospital for their ED as a new grad.
Yes fingers crossed for you @RN2FNP_Someday
Thank you @simplyunique

Congrats! May I ask what type of experience do you have? I have been trying to apply to new grad positions and haven’t heard back from any, getting discouraged...
Hi @chocoli um other than working in the medical field as an LVN &CCMA, I just kept applying for New Grad RN Positions.. Also, the most important thing is to make sure your Resume is on point. Because that’s what gets you in the door. I would say do some research on Resumes and what the employer is looking for. But Believe me, there’s a lot of competition out there, so try to apply early on once you see a position. In addition to looking on the websites of the hospitals you want to apply at, you can always reach out to their HR department and find out when their new grad programs generally appear. As well as create a Indeed account, they often post New Grad RN positions.
I hope that helps! Stay strong, never give up on your dreams.
