Non-licensure states

Published

Anyone have a listing or resource of states that do not require a license to practice as a home health agency?

Thanks.

Almost every single one does, especially if you are planning on government reimbursment of any type.................you definitely need it..........

If almost every state requires a license, then by default, some states do not.

The question was: Does anyone know where to find a list of those states that do not require a license to practice as a home health agency?

Thanks anyway.

Also, I think you are confusing licensure with certification.

What do you mean by licensure? In Illinois - the Dept of Professional Regulation licenses home care agencies. BTW why would you not want to be licensed? Just curious.

I don't want to know but I wouldn't want to work or receive care there.

Most states require a licence to practice home care - some do not.

I just haven't been able to locate a list of those that do not.

You will have a very large problem getting for your company and without it you cannot function. Also not be ablt to receive thrid party reimbursment.

Are you a nurse?

I'm sorry I posted here. Suzanne4, let me educate you a bit.

1. Home health agencies do not carry , they carry professional and being licensed to provide home health has no bearing on whether your corporation is insurable or not.

2. Every state requires an individual to have a nursing license from your state board of nursing - not every state requires a company or an individual to have a "home health" license (from a state regulatory body - i.e. department of health.) For example, I could open an ambulatory infusion suite (i.e. Alliance, Healix) and because I am not providing care in the patient's home or representing myself as "home health" I am not required to have that facility licensed. As I stated, some states do not require you to have a license in order to represent your company as a provider of "home health"

3. Being a licensed home care agency also has no bearing on third party payers. You cannot bill Medicare unless you are "certified" but If I am a home health corporation in a state that does not require a home health license, the managed care companies would not require the corporation to hold a license, because the state does not offer a license.

I am a nurse.

I'm tired of this thread already.

WOW... not trying to dig things up from the graveyard of old threads, but this original poster seemed very rude... I can't imagine....

By the way ... still no one seems to grasp a very simple question.

:) Thanks... We hope they open too... Sorry, did not mean to seem so judgemental here... It just seemed very horifice how the responses came across..

I personally have never heard of a non-licensure state for HHA unless you were going to only accept private pay. It appears on http://www.cms.gov that all agencies regardless of state have to have a license to be reimbursed my Medicare or Medicaid.

Though it would be time comsumig, the only way I think you could know for sure is to do an internet search on HHA requirements under each state until you find what you are looking for.
