I feel like death! I've come across quite the little virus this weekend, and I'm just miserable. I go back and forth between being so cold I need my electric blanket turned to high, and being so hot I have to get naked. My head aches, my stomach aches, I'm dizzy and nauseated. All I want to do is sleep this sickness away, but I can't! I'm in nursing school! I have stuff to read and study and learn.
There's no time for sick in nursing school!
Just needed to vent a little.

I agree...its tough to be sick and easy to fall behind...
my advice, take a couple tylenol and sleep as much as you can for a few days. In my experience its easier to sleep it off and catch up two or three days than to half learn a bunch of stuff while sick for 2 weeks.

Yeah, second that opinion. Unless you have an exam next week and haven't finished the reading...I would curl up on the couch, drug myself up, drink hot tea, and eat chicken soup. Do you have any busy work you could do just to get it out of the way? That's what I would work on in between naps so I didn't feel completely useless...

Everyone in my family is sick right now, and I have been avoiding them like they have the plague! Ive also been taking vitamins more & drinking OJ everyday. Just thinking about getting sick right now makes me nervous. I agree with the posts above me, take care of yourself first before you start studying... Feel better.:icon_hug:

You're not alone, Ms. Intensity . I hope since this thread is a few days old that you are now feeling better.
I was going to start my own "advice for the sick student" thread, but you summed it up. I can't remember feeling this bad in over 7 years (sad that I remember how bad that bout of the flu was). Aches, pains, hot, cold - I'm just glad I don't have respiratory issues along with it (yet, jinx).
I wish I could curl up for a few days, but that'll have to wait until Friday. My Thursday classes all have mandatory attendance policies. I'll actually lose 10 points off of my grade if I don't go to the one, another has a quiz I can't miss and am trying to hold my head up to study for. I only got onto All Nurses to look for some advice on how to deal with all of this and being sick.

Hey Chapookie-
I am doing a bit better. Tomorrow will be a week since I started not feeling well, so it's hung on a while. Last night my stomach was bothering me so badly I couldn't get any studying done. I have my third PN exam next week, and I am so far behind from being ill and laid up in bed. ACK!
I guess this little virus is making the rounds in many parts of the country. I say curl up in bed, take a couple Advil, and get some reading or studying done between napping, but definately rest!!! You'll never get better without resting up!
Hang in there!

I know exactly how you feel. I have been overworked all week, and when it came to my second clinical this week, I was crazy tired. I totally forgot my assignments today that were due and you know what? At that point I really didn't care, and this totally isn't me! I felt like crap! My professor was kinda mad. I hope the late grade isn't counted off that much.
Jeez, I need a break!

Yeah, my quiz yesterday was a bomb and I normally freak out about things like that. Right now, I just don't care. I am sleeping until Sunday. Thank God our Fall break is this Monday and Tuesday so I can get caught up. Back to bed for me. Sick or not, allnurses is my Internet "crack" - so addicting (I have to give credit to a friend for that line)!
Everyone feel better!

Do many nursing students get the flu shot? I thought about it.
We weren't allowed into clinical without it.
I'm surprised my school didn't make us get one. I am going to look into getting one. I not only catch everything, I catch everything twice.

I'm feeling your pain!!
I've been trying to sleep as much as I can and study as much as my clogged up head can take. I even went to work for 4 1/2 hours today thinking I could work my way out of feeling like poop - not such a brilliant idea!!
I wish you a quick and speedy recovery and also to anyone one else juggling "the crud" while being a Nursing Student - not fun, not fun at all!
