Lame... I'm speaking about you

You know what's lame passing judgement on someone making a post on a VENT thread which entire concept is to relieve stress instead of taking it out on our coworkers/costudents.

Of course your probably the same kind of guy that would act with all this bravado while still wearing his school uniform.

Note to the wise throw out your student uniforms once you graduate. Twice in the past two week I've been relieved by a nurse wearing his clinical uniforms. It doesn't inspire confidence in anyone. Dont lie about your experience. We remember what we were like when we were clueless and we remember. I dont mind helping anyone else but they need to as/admit it first.

Ohhh she did try to irrigate a foley by pushing the irrigant through the balloon port.

Scary part is.. she was actually a RN eeeeek

I've seen meds pushed through the ballon port of a G tube several times.

No... I don't act with that same bravado while I am wearing my students uniform because I admit that I don't know sh-t. Now you are passing judgment on me; so it goes both ways. Also, just because you are venting about coworkers/costudents behind their backs in a forum doesn't make it any more professional or justified. It makes it caddy.

I am not denying that that person did something incredibly stupid and that perhaps they did need to get chewed out as a way of bettering themselves as a nurse. All I am saying is that to say "I almost ate my first nurse today and it was tasty" is giving the impression that the poster "got off" on that experience of putting someone else down. That IS lame no matter how you look at it. If I have misinterpreted what the poster meant then I gladly admit my error and fault but if I am correct then I stand by my statement. Maybe I am passing judgment and maybe I am in the wrong but I think this whole "nurses eat their young" thing is something that disgusts me and our community should move away from it.

Having said all this, I believe this whole thread is bullocks. I feel this thread makes insecure nurses and nursing students feel better about themselves through other peoples failings. Don't get me wrong, I agree that some of the things people have done are beyond stupid but anxiety makes people do stupid things and we all no that their is absolutely NO anxiety involved with nursing school (now that's sarcasm).

To be very blunt; this whole "I know more then you" is an idiotic, childish waste of time. For the energy we are spending "ranting" about people that don't have our own god-like nursing skills we could be actually teaching these people with humility, empathy and compassion thus improving patient care and benefiting the cause of nursing! I implore us all to do just this.

Many Kudos.. It is unprofessional and embarassing representation of nurses to act or talk that way. To the response about still being in a clinical uniform, well yes most people on a "general nursing student" thread are.

The "person" in question was a licensed nurse turning up for work in a school uniform. He's not the first person I've seen do this in the last few weeks which gives me pause to wonder.

Also my entire point was I refrained from "eating" him up. For the record he didn't even assess the patient before declaring his judgement. Hospice requires a special set of nursing skills. Things that you are worried about in the general setting do not apply. Even if the patient might have had pulmonary hypertension then the treatment would have been the same. Treat the symptom not the disease. I got the general impression that he was trying to impress me with his advanced knowledge.

If you don't like a thread don't post on it. If you do post on it be mature enough to post more than a one word insult the first time. You never know if your going to run into somebody on allnurses in real life. I have a couple of times.

You just don't get my point.

No he didn't say to a massive non-ST elevation MI patient, who had stents placed a few hours earlier, "Well, I'm done getting your vitals for a while. Now you can rest in peace. Um...well, I didn't mean it that way." I nervously looked up and hoped he and his wife would laugh. They didn't.

It was me. Worst thing is, I knew the patient from Church. Talk about a faux-pas.

Humility is a huge part to being a nurse.

Oh no she didn't trip over her new (too big I might add) nursing shoes into a room full of family members of a palliative patient, while loudly exclaiming something better not printed, only to fall flat on her face carrying a warm blanket. Talk about unprofessional.

That was me on one of my first clinical days four years ago. Luckily the family had a wonderful sense of humor and I got lots of laughs every time I walked by the room. Thank goodness for understanding people! :nurse:
