WHO THINKS SUZY K NEEDS TO GET OVER HERSELF?????IT IS NURSES LIKE YOU THAT GIVE US ALL A BAD NAME! WHEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING INTELLIGENT TO SAY ON THIS INTELLIGENT BOARD MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE BESIDES C.LO WILL LISTEN BECAUSE IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE OUT NUMBERED!!!IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE THE ONE THAT IS INSECURE ABOUT YOUR NURSING ABILITIES AND OBVIOUSLY FEEL THREATENED, AND OBVIOUSLY DONT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!YOU PUT REALNURSEALSO/LPN AND IRIS IN THE ONLY POSITION THEY COULD CHOOSE AND THAT WAS TO DEFEND THEMSELVES, AND THEREFORE HAVE LEFT ME NO CHOICE BUT TO PUT YOU IN YOUR PLACE AND THAT IS 1.THERE ARE LPNS ALL OVER THE STATES,2.I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF AN LPN NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND A JOB,3.MAYBE IN YOUR LITTLE NECK OF THE WOODS THEY MIGHT NOT RESPECT LPNS AS MUCH AS OTHER PLACES BUT HERE IN OKLAHOMA AND MANY OTHER STATES WE ARE HIGHLY RESPECTED AND TREATED NO DIFFERENTLY THAN THE RNS!4. AS FAR AS I KNOW NURSING JOBS ALSO GO BY EXPERIENCE,QUALIFICATIONS,INTELLIGENCE,COMMON SENCE,ABILITY TO WORK WELL WITH OTHERS,ECT..NOT JUST RN VS LPN. 5.ALSO JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE AN RN DOESNT MEAN YOU DO "A LITTLE BIT MORE " AND FOR THE MONEY ISSUE I MAKE PLENTY OF IT !!!I HAVE STARTED JUST AS MANY IVS NEONATES TO ADULTS, RAN JUST AS MANY CODES, PUSHED AS MANY MEDS,AND TAKEN JUST AS MUCH CRAP FROM THE DOCTORS AS ANY RN,I HAVE ALSO SAVED A BUTT OR 2 AND HAVE HAD MINE SAVED A TIME OR 2, ITS CALLED TEAM WORK!!!!THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ME AND YOU IS IM A BETTER PERSON FOR IT AND YOU HAVENT LEARNED ANYTHING..I HAVE WORKED ER FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS 12 HOUR SHIFTS 4 DAYS A WEEK AND WHEN IM NOT THERE I AM AT MY OTHER JOB WORKING L&D,POSTPARTUM,PEDS,MS,POSTOP AND ICU BECAUSE THE LPNS ARE TRAINED IN ALL AREAS JUST LIKE THE RNS, SO LET ME ASSURE YOU THERE ARE PLENTY OF JOBS IN MY "LITTLE PART OF THE WORLD" AS YOU PUT IT WITH PLENTY OF AWESOME RNS AND LPNS TO WORK BESIDE NOT ABOVE OR BELOW..SO IN MY LAST WORDS WHEN YOU GET SOMEMORE EXPERIENCE AND INTELLEGENCE I MIGHT WASTE SOMEMORE OF MY TIME ON YOU UNTIL THEN GET OVER YOURSELF!!!!! SIGNED 1 HARD WORKING TIRED OF LISTENING TO SUSY K ER NURSE!!!!!!!!I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO THANK ALL THE AWESOME RNS AND LPNS OUT THERE THAT ARE ON THE SAME SIDE AND KNOW HOW TO WORK AS A TEAM TO GET THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB DONE AND THAT IS TO GIVE THE BEST PT CARE POSS..THANKYOU

Oh my good god. If I knew your middle names I'd call you all by all three of your names very sternly and send you all on time out so you could think about what it is you've been doing. I might even send you to bed early /s any stories.

don't take this the wrong way but has anyone thought that maybe suzy k really wanted to ask 'what's the difference between an LPN and an RN?'

her quote of "LPNs do the same thing as RNs, they just get paid less!"

Susy K - so sorry I did reread your response to C.LO and you did not concur. Must be losing my marbles. Also, as far as I know, there is no difference between an LVN and an LPN. Just different names in different states. They take the same boards. I hope all this will end now that you have your answers. Most became LPN's due to shorter length of schooling, finances and families. And most LPN's have a great deal of opportunities to provide care in a variety of settings dependent on the state in which they practice and any additional inservicing they receive. Love your passion; reminds me of myself! smile.gif

Sunshine -

Thank you, really, for re-reading and understanding. I have been losing sleep over this and starting to think that I was losing my own marbles. There is one thing that I cannot handle (must be back from childhood days) is being blamed for something that I know with a passion that I didn't do.

Thanks again and I hope this ends too.

Why are so many people being defensive about Suzy K's questions? I don't see that she was rude or condescending in any way.

To all those LPNs who say they are the exactly the same as RNs only with a different title:

Why do you allow yourselves to be exploited by doing the exact same job for less pay?

In NY there are different scopes of practice for LPNs as opposed to RNs. RNs have a broader scope than LPNs. Most experienced LPNs have learned to do most of the tasks that an RN does-but it would be ILLEGAL to do some of them and could lead to loss of licensure, so WHY would anyone do it? I have learned to do certain tasks that belong in the MDs scope of practice-but i would be a fool to do it where i am not legally allowed to do so. For example, I know that a patient who is in CHF needs lasix-but I would never give it w/o an order. I have learned to insert NGTs in certain settings, but only MDs are permitted to insert them in one of the places where I work. So I wait for the doc.

Also, where I live in NY, most of the hospitals do not hire LPNs; in this area the only work for LPNs is in long term care or MDs offices.

AND I AM NOT PUTTING ANYONE DOWN. These are truly just honest statements & questions.

You people need to grow up. Learn to debate. Stop complaining. This is a discussion group for professional adults. If someone has an issue or concern, address it in an adult manner...and people wonder why there are so many problems in nursing. Use your intelligence and come up with a good counter-argument. The only thing missing in this forum is a supervisor for some of you to run to and tattle-tale on someone else. "Oh, guess what Susy K did!!!" Blah, blah, blah. C'mon adults. Use your head.

Thank you Hannabear. And you are right. That is what I wanted to know. I wish people would just ask rather than jumping to conclusions or arguing with me about what I meant.

Do you know I don't even know the difference between an LVN and an LPN for god's sake??

I would also like to point out that this was my reply to The Boss that seemed to have gotten her so upset as to start this thread:

To "the boss:,

You mentioned very respectfully that you do the same things as the RN, only they get paid more. I would like to point out two things:

1. This kind of statement is what prompts me to pose the question that I did. Think about that for a moment.

2. I would like to also respectfully state that I think RNs do a LITTLE bit more or have some more qualifications...even compared to the most seasoned LPN. At least I would hope so, seeing as we get paid more and had to go to school longer. I've never understood the so widely varied educational tracks for nurses, and frankly neither do the patients at times. That is why I think this is a worthy discussion, at least worthy enough for an internet bulletin board.

well ktwlpn i hope you have gotten an answer it depends on the stae, facility, and qualifications of the lpn that dictates what we can do or not and has we have learned it is different in all states..

and to chris-fnp you are right...

i did fly off the handle but that wasnt my 1st intention.. my 1st visit to this board as you can amagine was shocking, madning and i guess nieve of me to think that all nurses were treated equal without predjudice, i have learned this isnt so..i would like to say that lpns are valued for there abilities and respected in the state of oklahoma and i am truely glad that i live here ...i can also vouch for california because i am a transplanted lpn from calif...and they are lpn friendly there also.. i have also seen suzy k counterdict herself in her responses and still think she has nothing to add to the nursing profession until she aquires some more experience!!!it takes some longer to realize that they are no better.. she also said ( like i said i admire lpns ) how can you admire and cutdown lpns at the same time ??? oh well it doesnt matter maybe she will learn something from this debate..THE BOSS
