No luck in finding Nursing job.

Nurses Career Support

Published

I'm an LVN student (army vet) in Dallas, TX and I'll be graduating July but I've applied to about 15 different places for positions. None of them will hire an LVN nurse fresh outa school. Well I did get like 5 calls from the places I applied to only for them to congratulate me on my pending graduation and to call them when I get a years experience. Yeah, it seems like all the Nursing Jobs out there either require an RN, or at least 1yrs experience. Its mind boggling how one gets the experience without getting the job. Gee!! can u say frustration? Any ideas? from anybody?

Just to let you know! I have been a LPN for almost 14 years, and trust me the first place you work is for the experience. Stick with it for at least one year, and then you will can choose the next step. You foot is in the door and it is an opportunity of a life time. That same thing happened to me when I got out of school 14 years ago, and I stuck it out for 1 year and then I moved on to what I really wanted to do.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Did you try the VA hospital there?

Have you tried Long Term Care Facilities? I know quite a few LPN's here in Ohio that work at LTC facilities...they were hired right out of school and one is actually a charge nurse i think...I know how frustrating it can be too..i grad last year with my BA in psych and soc and before I went back for my MN I was trying to find a job...no one would hire me without experience but no one wanted to hire me so that I could get experience...it was sooo frusterating...

Have you tried

maybe agencies too? I have not had any experience with them but might be something to look into.

Most of the hospitals in our area are not hiring LVN's. Period. We offer tuition reimbursement for LVN's already employed who want to get their RN, but the future does not look bright for LVN's here. However, some of the country hospitals and MD's hire them. As for experience, I don't know how you can get experience without working. My suggestion is work LTC while you return for your RN.
