No job for new grad RN in Cleveland area

I had to totally revamp my resume - and yes, other people had said it looked great. The key I found was take what they say in description of the job and use those phrases on your resume. Unfortunately its more work, but you should adapt your resume to eat job you are applying for. For example, they say "delegates tasks" in the job description - so you should use the words "delegates" and "tasks" somewhere along in your resume, like in the experience section. Dont use "assigns" instead of delegates. The more key words your resume matches to the job title, the better your odds are at getting a call back for an interview - this is what I was told, and it did work for me. It takes more time, but its worth it. good luck!

I've never heard of this place you graduated from, that might be the problem. Many of the big hospitals in Cleveland are looking for BSN prepared nurses. Unfortunately, we have not hired any from these schools at the hosptial I am at. (I am on the nurse recruitment committee).

My suggestion is to call the HR departments and ask them if they do hire from tech schools. Some of the smaller suburban hospital may hire you, have you applied to any of them? Is there any way you can start BSN classes? I'm sorry

I figured that being graduated from my school can be a problem.Well, there is nothing I can do about it. I will try (as you suggested) to apply at smaller hospitals. I am aslo considering going back to school for either BSN or MSN (I haven't decided yet).

Good Luck to you. I would also ask about your credits transferring to colleges, many times credits from tech schools don't transfer over and you have to start from scratch.

Good luck with EMH. I was excited to see they had a new grad program open. I applied this morning at 7am. I've already been rejected for it. I'm in SW Ohio so maybe.....they're just taking apps from people that already live there. Who knows. I'm starting to think your qualifications don't matter and they just grab names out of a hat.

I'm a new BSN grad, licensed for one month now, in west Cleveland. I've applied to CC, UH, and EMH, plus other offices, nursing homes, among others... Probably close to 75 applications now. I've applied to all "new grad" positions and was told they picked someone more qualified. Needless to say, I've been denied for all other positions where a year of experience is "preferred". I have hospital experience as an aide and a year of tutoring nursing students, not to mention a great GPA. So I understand your frustration! Since it seems that you have to know someone, I'm going to try volunteering at my first pick hospital, hopefully that opens some doors. I'll keep you all posted.

If anyone else has suggestions, I'd love to hear them!! Thanks

I also have never heard of ATS...is the nursing program accredited (not the college but the actual program)? I couldn't find that information on the website...if not that could be a problem :/ Also, I know the Cleveland Clinic and other Cleveland hospitals strive for BSN-prepared RNs. The jobs are definitely out there...I have a bunch of friends who were all hired as new grads at both the Cleveland Clinic and UH.

My other suggestion would be to revamp your resume. I relocated to Texas and I thought that by having tech experience, I would for sure be able to find a job pretty easily. I started applying for jobs after I got licensed back in March and I felt like I sent in 100+ applications...and I never got a call. I thought maybe it is because they see I am in Ohio and they didn't understand that I will be relocating to Texas in May...so when I moved here, still never got any calls. I decided to tweak my resume, apply to more jobs, then I got some calls and 3 weeks later I got hired as an RN. The resume is very important - you need to make yourself sound good on paper and make yourself stand out from other applicants.
