NMC Test Online

Anybody here who took the Pearsons Vue NMC exam? How was it? TY!

I've been following this thread for quite a while now and really appreciate all the tips and advice! I finally took the test today and I passed! I don't have much to add to what other people have said as far as what to study. I honestly didn't study much at all. Mostly I read through all the standards and guidance and other documents on the NMC website. I tried using the blueprint, but it seemed like everything was so generalized it wasn't even helpful. I clicked around on some of the links, but it seemed like it would have taken a lifetime to thoroughly explore each and every website, so I just...didn't. Haha. There were a few "specialty nursing" and pharmacology questions, but not enough to warrant reviewing everything on those subjects in my opinion. And as far as med surg, if you've been a practicing nurse for a year or so, you'll probably have enough base knowledge to figure it out. As with any nursing test, there were those questions where you can narrow it to two but really don't know what they're looking for. Don't stress it and just go with your most educated guess! Seriously though, don't stress about this test too much. You'll do a lot better if you're relaxed :) Now the OSCE on the other hand...I'm worried about that one. Haha. I have no idea what to expect and I'm really looking forward to hearing others' input and advice on it before I have the courage to pursue it! Thanks again for all the help guys!

Wow! Good for you!:) I'm still having the jitters though lol. So I do not have to memorize anything from the blueprint?:) just a quick run through would suffice?:) It really is a headache actually. Too many links and all :/

I completely agree lowlyfreelancer, the blueprint really is a headache. I would say just skim through it but don't feel like you have to memorize anything. I mean, some of the topics to study were things like "makes good nursing decisions related to med surg" (paraphrasing). So basically...everything in my 1000 page book from nursing school. Got it. I might have felt a little more prepared it I had re read all that, but I was hoping that after 3 years of being a nurse I would be able to use common nursing sense and experience. For the links, at least click on them to see what they're about, but if you already have base knowledge of the subject matter, move on. Some things I read a little closer because I didn't know how they compared to similar topics here in the U.S. For example, I actually perused the pages about the Mental Capacity act just to be sure it was similar to the local laws I'm familiar with. It's probably different for every person, but for me it worked best to stay relaxed, not take the studying to extremes, and rely on common sense and experience. Best of luck to you!

Yes that is true. Some statements even say: "work in cooperation with others for the benefit of all" over and over again in different domains haha. Well, thanks for the tips! I'm actually getting sleepy/bored while reading the blueprint and the links. Not because I do not want to study, but the concepts keep on repeating themselves haha.

@varvar28 - Congratulations! Hope you would also share your experience for the OSCE, but all I know about it is that it'll start on April.

@rianeshia - I believe you have to contact NMC first, then they will have to coordinate your account with Pearson Vue. Good luck! ^_^

Hi all!

i've gone through the thread and it seems like everyone's having a hard time with the cbt. Anyone from this forum passed it already? I need to book my cbt as well, my att is good until september. I was really not prepared for this coz i thought i need to wait for my decision letter before i can take the exam, which i reckon would be about august yet. But, when i created an online acct with nmc, alas! I got an email from personvue.. I was gobsmacked!

Anyway, i need advise on what materials/books to study.. I've graduated nursing 10 yrs ago, passed nclex 8 yrs ago but given up on my US application. Been working as a hca here in uk and just had the chance to register with nmc.. Mommy duties!

a little help pls... Thanks! :)

Hello all. I've been lurking in this topic for quite a while but just recently I felt compelled to make an account and actually post because I was one of the few unfortunate ones who got switched from the old scheme to the new one (and I'm still resentful about it, to say the least). I've scheduled my exam on the 20th but as I continue reading through the materials NMC have on their site, I kinda wished I'd gone for an earlier date. Then again, it doesn't hurt to have more study time.

Speaking of their publications and stuff, man the whole thing is just cluttered as hell. Somebody here suggested Royal Marsden Hospital's manual, and frankly, I prefer reading that than going back and forth with the blueprint and the reference links in it--even though, like I said, I am studying the blueprint too, lol. RMH basically compiled the code, principles, and guidelines (all of which basically say the same things), along with nursing procedures in the UK into one neat and organized package.

Sigh, £130 is a lot of money, especially since I already paid them £140 for the assessment of my first pack back in the old scheme, which they will NOT refund or transfer for the reassesment of my papers if I pass, in case you're wondering.

Are you also here in UK kurokocchi? Best of luck on your exams! I still need to book mine for june maybe.. I think the 140 is for registration.. If you come to think of it, it's cheaper and quicker with this new system BUT it's black and white.. Either you pass the exam or you fail. í ½í¸© at least with the ONP you just need to submit essays..

If your working for the nhs they have it on the intranet.. I was able to access some procedures.. But you can also get it on amazon.

Are there any nurses here especially from the Philippines who are not "staff nurses" but just volunteering? Can you pls PM me? Thank you!

Royal marsden manual.. Professional or studend edition? What's the difference and what's more useful to prepare for the exam?

Thank you, and I wish you the best on the exams, too.

Anyway, I'm from the Philippines. I got hired in an NHS Trust hospital back in November and I've been running back and forth since then just complying with the requirements they and the NMC asked of me. Now, thanks to this untoward outcome, I'm back to where I started and I have to complete everything before April. >_

You know, I actually agree that their new process is indeed faster, but it's been augmented with a couple of ifs now (the computer test and the OSCE), wherein a bungle could cost one an arm and a leg.
