NLN Results....

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I took my test on 1/27....I read on here some people are getting their results back in 12 days...well that's today. Does anyone who took their test that day have theirs back? How about those of you that took it just before then...are your results back yet?

I was fine this morning until I looked out my window and saw the mailbox. Then it hit me. Now I'm a NERVOUS NERVOUS NERVOUS wreck!!

Alrighty...hmmm. Well I'll be waiting on the mail truck.

I took one of the practice tests in the back of the NLN study guide.

I got:

46 -verbal

28 - Math (yuck)

34 - Science

My question is, if this were the real test, would this be a good score?

I haven't even started pre-recs yet, so if it's bad, I can certainy work on it. Thanks for your help. ;)

Verbal 46 out of 60

Although I took a second math and it was 32 out of 40.

Looks like your average would be around 68% for all three sections, but one thing you should realize is they don't go off of your percentage on the test...your percent is based on how well others who take the same test do. So, even though it is a 68% on the questions, it may be a little bit higher or lower than that for your actual program percentage.

What I would do is determine where it is you seem to be having issues and work on it...do what you need to do to improve that. You'd be surpised how pin pointing where your issues are and spending sometime focusing on those will improve your score!!!

So, I would say the score you got on that practice test would not get you into the program at my school. I would suggest definitely trying to bring up those scores!!! Best of luck!!!

I found that the practice tests in the study guide were much harder than the actual test itself! That being said, I would concentrate on improving your performance on those tests as the structure, content, method of calculations are where you want to do well. Believe me, my study guide tests were awful...but then for 6 weeks or so I worked on the content constantly. A week or so before the exam, I went to the library (for some peace and quiet) and started timing myself on the same exams.

When I went in to the actual exam, I couldn't believe what I was overhearing..."hopefully I'll pass it

this time"..."I always run out of time"..."third times a charmer" and of course, "whaddaya mean we can't use calculators!". Yeah, I was pretty intimidated overhearing stuff like that. However, when the exam was over, I couldn't believe how GOOD I felt - the exam wasn't so difficult afterall! I did mess up in one spot, however: I missed a line to fill in the bubble about 9 answers from the end in math. This probably meant that all my answers were off by one from that point on - and, most likely, resulted in my lowest at 77. (My composite score was 141 and composite percentile 98).

Anyway, that being said, once you complete your pre-req, a lot of the content in science will come together (especially for those of us in the over 30+ club). Kids today are taught a lot of the stuff that was recently discovered in our day (like DNA sequence) that us older, nontraditional students were never exposed to in our high school days.

Again, just keep keep re-taking the study guide exams (take notes, too) and it will more than prepare you for the actual test. Good luck and I wish you the best!

I do agree with you that the practice IS harder than the actual test, but I am one of those who has taken the test three times, so what may come easy to some is not nearly as easy to others. I do absolutely fine on the Math/Science (and I agree, if you've completed the pre-req's, you should do fine on these...use the NLN study guide to review), but the vocabulary, for whatever reason, continues to haunt me...and that is why I question how I did every time I leave.

In my opinion, there really is no way to prepare you for the vocabulary part other than the prefix/suffix/roots...that is the only thing I can find other than memorizing the Webster's Dictionary that even boosted my score. I think you either know it, or you don't and I can't seem to figure out how to "know it".

Why I have such a hard time with the vocab, I can't seem to figure out!! Reading Comp I do fine, but vocab...not easy for me at all!!!

The study guide is the closest thing you will get to the actual exam, so keep studying it over and over and over!! Know the math, know the science and do whatever you need to do to figure out the vocab! You will do as well as you can...for me, the first test was a glimpse of what I needed to know...sort of like a review test.

Good luck to you on your exam. And for the record, I am taking my test AGAIN...yes, for the 4th time, next Tuesday. While I got an ok score this last time, I am right on the borderline and want to try to score just a bit higher so I feel more comfortable.

Both links are from the same website. If you click the second link, then click on register now and just enter the info needed like the program you want to apply too RN or PN and your state it should give you up coming test sites in your area. The first link you can explore and explains the test, and what not.

I agree with the pp...we all go through it. Trust me!!! I'm there right now and little by little, you climb right up there with everyone else. Hang in there and you WILL make it!

no, you'll have to sit down and evaluate where you had the most troubles, what concepts you didn't understand, or if you just didn't have enough time to devote to the classes and retake them, one at a time may be the best so you can devote full attention to each one, while programs vary for most the minimum grade in a general education calss requirement is a c however a b would be better, good luck, keep trying and go to your instructor when you start to struggle, don't wait until it's too late to turn it around

no, you can't. all you can do is keep trying. did you try going to tutors? i know they offer that service at our school at no charge. hang in there and keep trying.
